Matt Hughes has a better chance to be champ again by moving up to 185
and challenging Anderson Silva then he does by staying down at 170 for
Diego, GSP, Kos, etc... (Silva is custom made for Matt, imo)
IMO, he would ground and pound Silva, and then do the same thing to
Rich Franklin (in a huge payday-type of event...)
then he can retire at the top....
Matt: listen to this advice. it is the perfect way for you to end your
career.... go get the spider and the middleweight belt...

Good thing that's your opinion and you aren't a sportscaster...
Remember what happened when GSP fought Hughes...?
Something like that but much quicker and more brutal would happen to Hughes if he fought Silva...
Silva's got the reach, the weight, the striking skill advantage
i actually think truthfreesyou has a good point, look at how lutter dominated the first round, i think with hughe's strength, he would have a decent chance of beating anderson silva, hughes has better take downs than lutter and lutter took silva down, but i don't think that hughes could beat someone like franklin, who has really good takedown defense, but silva showed that he doesn't have very good takedown defense
I think Silva beats Hughes IF Hughes makes the mistake he did with GSP and stays standing. On the ground Hughes has a better-than-even shot at winning.
But I can't see Hughes doing well against much bigger middleweights like Nate Marquart or Franklin. And then you've got the "I won't fight my buddy" thing, because Hughes and Franklin are really close.
It's a moot question, because Hughes has already said he won't be moving up to MW. He's got his hands full at WW. Although I give Silva the edge in that fight, Hughes would have a chance against him.
I didn't mean to come off like a dick...I re-read my post and I can see how it would come across like that...Anyways, I'm just not a big fan of the wrestling syndrome...
Either way, Silva wasn't 100% when he fought Lutter...I'm not sure if you read on Joe Rogan's thread that he had knee surgery about 11 weeks out from the fight, so his knees were sore...
He didn't make any excuses, still came in to fight and got a submission win over an ADCC level grappler...
Either way, Hughes biggest problem is Silva's fluidity and his ability to exploit the height advantage...Hughes will take a shin kick right to the mouth...
I just strongly believe that Silva would destroy Hughes...
