"I was really looking forward to fighting Matt with what he’s said and the actions he’s done against me and so now I just don’t have that hunger that I had before, ” - Hughes
"“The loss to Matt Serra was probably the best thing to ever happen to me in my career." - St. Pierre
"In St. Pierre?s first fight after dismantling Hughes last November he was TKO?d in the first round by Serra and a herniated disk is when someone has a spinal disk rupture and push a portion of the disk outside its normal boundary causing symptoms such as electric shock-like pains throughout the body, numbness and muscle weakness. So that Hughes would both dismiss Serra as a lot less ?tough? than St. Pierre and that he would in any way characterize the injured champion?s current situation as an ?easy way out? is a testament to just how much disdain he has for the New Yorker.
"Why isnt he hungry to fight the last guy who defeated him?"
because Hughes knows he will get stopped by GSP.. his only hope at a win was against Serra, becuase Serra likes to grapple and maybe Hughes could have layed and prayed a decision.
Hughes' time has past.. the guys that can only wrestle will be getting stopped including Hughes. Matt H will never be a champion again.. unless its carefully tailor made for him. Other than that.. Hughes = done He knows it too.. saying that he's got a few fights left in him.. even admiting on TV that all he's got is grappling.
I hope the age of the wreslter turned fighter are done, from what Ive seen most fight to not lose and have padded records because there good at ground control..
Troubling statement by Hughes to say the least. The interim belt and opportuinity to win the belt back is no longer a motivator. SOemone who talks smack about him- That's what fires him up. I like both HUghes and Serra (although I appreciate Serra ground game much more than Hughes) but this seems a bit unprofssional and too personal.
From reading the original quote, I dont think Hughes meant it like that at all...
I'm pretty sure he was saying that he wasn't motivated to fight anymore (meaning at all) and that fighting Serra was motivating because of all the sh@t he was talking...
He was not specifically speaking of his motivation for fighting GSP. He actually mentions that he prefers to fight GSP because he is a much better fighter.
db, I know what you were referencing. It's interesting because that's what Serra says and Hughes has seemed to say that he wasn't sure where it came from.
I love how people say Hughes will Lay and Pray to a decision. Aside from the Lytle fight, where it did go to a decision, but he was more than active, How many times does a Hughes fight go to a decision? Check his record and you will see it is not very often.
