and here is why: GSP is a phenomenal athlete and an outstanding fighter. He is one of my favorites. Unfortunately he entered the UFC about two years too early. Hughes' game is constantly evolving and although I feel that GSP is much better on his feet, I feel that Matt will be able to handle him on the ground and will submit him again. Six months after Hughes beats GSP for the second time he will beat Penn in a rematch and secure himself as the most dominant UFC fighter of all-time.
GSP will wreck anyone that gets in his way.
By the way didn't you predict Sherk would beat GSP as well :)
the only way Hughes beats GSP in a rematch is by fighting a boring drawn out Lay N' Pray Decision...
Grappula,
You are correct. The GSP/Sherk fight was a surprise to me. GSP proved to be too much. However, Hughes will find a way to win and do it in covincing fashion.
You do realize that Hughes wasn't looking very good or dominant aganst GSP before he pulled that sub off. He'll have a much harder time the 2nd time.
GSP
the HUGHES/GSP/PENN triangle will probably swap wins between themselves for the next 2-3 years. Anyone can beat the other IMO.
Honestly I see a totally different fight than the last one, sure Matt was against the ropes but he was FAR from being finished by GSP..While Hughes has the edge anyone can beat anyone on any given night (err.. almost) Anyone remember Hughes/Trigg 2? THAT is why I will NEVER bet against Matt. I think any welterweight in the world save a select few would have went down from Trigg's fury early on. Am I the only one who was amazed by this? The instant Matt regained his bearings Trigg had no more offense. One thing that scares me though is that GSP is better than Trigg, I believe had GSP been in Trigg's position, he would have subbed Hughes upon rocking him unlike Trigg. I'm not saying this is a gauge for Hughes/GSP, I'm just saying pretty much the only way to beat Hughes is to submit him, and you know that with each and every fight he is only improving submissions/submission defense. In a fight, so many variables are at play, I have to believe that Matt's experience alone makes him better prepared for these variables. I'm not saying he can't be beat, but he definitely has an edge on his competition.
St Pierre will beat Hughes. His time is now.
No, Chief..... most have unfortunately forgotten that memorable moment.
Now, most rely the distant memory of GSP landing a spinning back kick to Matt's side, and the fact that Matt was a big meanie pants on a reality show. That's why GSP "will win".....
matt is a legend of the sport, i think GSP is on his way to becoming one - either way, it will be a great fight!
brutal decision?
like 5 rds to 0?
anunaki is correct. IMHO, I would rank them in this order: 1. BJ Penn 2. Georges St Pierre 3. Matt Hughes
Gary Hughes
GSP will surprise even his own fans once again, by total dominating Matt Hughes.
Surpruse, not like the first time, he's a new fighter... Blah blah blah... Heard it all before.
Matt subbed him in one round before, it will be harder this time, submission in the second.
Hughes is the consummate champion.
The ability to turn things around in a fight, "fight gone bad" if you will, is more important than dominating from start to finish any day.
Trigg/Hughes 2 cemented in my mind how amazing and unstoppable Hughes can be. After getting hammered like that...Fuckin' amazing.
I will still put $100 on GSP.
Both Trigg and Sherk was competetive against Hughes and both had their moment. GSP destroyed them like they dont belong in the same ring/cage with him. GSP made a bad mistake and Hughes used his experience to capitalize on it. The only way GSP losses again to Hughes is making another bad mistake. Not likely to happen. GSP will punish Hughes standing and will stop him via GNP.
"Both Trigg and Sherk was competetive against Hughes"
How is two first round RNC's competitive? The Sherk thing is extremely extremely impressive, that's the best bit of evidence the GSP fans have.
I just don't understand what Matt Hughes has to do in order to get any credit. Would you be satisfied if he physically ripped GSP's head off? I just don't get it. I hope that this fight is very clear-cut and Hughes doesn't have to hear about 'capitalizing on a mistake'.
acebandage.... The thing with Matt Hughes is no different than with any fighter, at least as far as the UG is concerned. Some are fickle, some are fair-weather, and some are just flat out ignorant and illogical...... not to mention hypocritical.
First of all, Matt lost to BJ. That makes him overrated in many peoples' eyes. Then, after the bullshit with BJ and Dana stripping him of the title..... when Matt won it back, he was nothing but a "paper champion". Forget his record, forget his domination of the division outside of his fight with Penn. It suddenly has no bearing.
Then, Matt looks like a dick on a reality show. That doesn't sit well with the drama queens and high school gossip circles......
Forget that Matt has already submitted GSP the same way that BJ submitted Matt..... forget that Matt is on the exact same length of a win streak against just as impressive opposition as GSP...... Matt is a meanie and he lost to BJ, that's why he can't beat GSP....... again.
It's the same thing that happened to Tito.
It's the same thing that's happened to Randy.
It's the same thing that's happening to Silva.
If Fedor ever loses...... you'll see the same thing happen with him.
Annonying, isn't it?
