At the post-fight press conference for UFC Fight Night 85, Mark Hunt described the end of the fight from his perspective and why he just walked off after landing the knockout punch:

"Frank, he was still in the dark lands when I saw him [after landing the punch]," Hunt said during the post-fight press conference. "His face was still...he wasn't there, so I just left it. He wasn't there. He was out, somewhere else."
After some laughter from those in attendance, Hunt elaborated on his original statement.
"Well, it's true," Hunt continued. "He wasn't there. He was blacked out."
I'm a gigantic Hunt nuthugger but I can't help wondering whether there's an element of strategy in it. Why follow Frank Mir to the ground when you can walk away and have the ref step in?
But then again he was only too happy to dive into Werdum's guard to try to finish that fight.
Either way I think he saved Mir from more punishment.
Ruthless Power>Killer Point Fighter - The walk off KO thing is very interesting.

it has been discussed here in the ug for some time now, the best explanation is, in kickboxing where hunt started, when you knock down your opponent, ref wont start counting until you go away to the other side of the ring. if you dont walk away right away opponent gets extra few seconds to recover.
hunt had knocked down too many mofos and it has become a force of habit.
i may be making all that shit up, memory is a cruel bitch.
Initially, I thought the walkoff was kinda forced a premature stoppage, but watching it again, you can see Mir doesn't even react to the referee stopping the fight. He just keeps staring off in the same direction.

Same until I saw the look in Frank eyes, even after he got up. He literally wasn't there still.
