Hurt a guy while bouncing - now being sued

So a buddy of mine has a bar that has been getting out of control, in a bit of a white trash midwest area and the bar has been having issues with prostitution, drunken bar brawls in the parking lot, etc etc etc.

So he brought me on with a generous salary offer and wanted me to help train and staff the place with competent bouncers and wait staff. I am mostly a bjj guy but did years of aikido, small circle and shingitai jiujitsu. Laugh all you want but I recommend those styles for bouncers or cops even.

So last night was my first night there and this guys whore girlfriend is dancing all over the bar counters knocking drinks over and scratching the table top. One of our bouncers tells her to get down and dumbass boyfriend yells 'let her dance' and sucker punches my bouncer, at that point I grabbed his arm and sort of had him in a wristlock with one hand and the other hand smashed his face in the bar, then lifted him back up and told my guys to escort him to the door.

Turns out I broke the guys nose and am on a "paid leave" from my employer until the heat from this cools down, which I think is absolutely ridiculous. Does this guy have a leg to stand on legally? No way right?

This kinda sounds like the movie Road House

As a bouncer you are basically doing security. In California you would need a guard card to do this kind of work legally. By you smashing his face into the bar could be considered excessive force due to you breaking his nose. If a law enforcement officer did the same thing he would be in trouble for using excessive force.

You would have been better off just taking him down to the ground and you and your co-workers could have just lifted him up and escorted him outside and wait for the police.

Doing this type of work is just plain trouble and is why most security companies do not touch these types of accounts. You deal with intoxicated people who lose control and do not make the best decisions.

I have trained people for bar security and using multiple security personnel is a better option when dealing with intoxicated individuals. In your situation you should have approached this subject with 3 or more security personnel and grabbed him at all once and placed him in a control hold then escorted him outside where he could be handed over to police.

Yup.

Do you live on the 2nd floor of a barn by a lake and do tai chi outside in the morning?

Baek Doo San - Any video footage? (Then post it!)

If it shows him sucker punch a bouncer first. And you didn't go too over zealous. You should be right.
Unfortunately your about to find out how fukt up lawyers are though. If he has a decent one, you better get a descent one. $$$!

troll

Was the name of the club the Double Douche?

If there are witnesses confirming the sucker punch, then you might be in the clear. However, I've always preferred pure wrestling (emphasis on upper body clinch work and trips) for bouncing, as it's always better not to leave a mark on someone. When I was head of security, I hired a lot of Greco guys – they were always able to manhandle patrons without the use of joint locks or strikes.

Ok dalton Phone Post 3.0

Be nice.....until it's time to not be nice.

Pain don't hurt.

Does a hobby horse have a wooden dick?

Be careful man. Always check their right boot when they come in. Sounds like you were pretty nice until it was time to not be nice.
