I was grappling with a 275lb MMA guy tonight in NoGi and I was defending a guard pass when he pushed my leg and heard a POP. It didn't hurt at all, but I still just relaxed for the rest of practice now it feels fine if I lift my foot to my butt, but feels tight when lowering it back down. I think it was hyperextended towards the inside (like if you pushed the outside of my knee towards the inside)
Anyone have any experience with this?
Same thing happened to me on Friday during a 7am roll. Thought I had really torn something up, but as of today, no pain, swelling or any other sign of injury. I've worked out since and still good to go. Apparently my knee pops kinda like I'm cracking my knuckles sometimes. Big sigh of relief. Hope yours is the same.
Ok I take that back.... It now hurts when extend and retract my leg.....

Thanks for that, I sometimes have a tendency to get really nervous any time I get injured. My worst fear is long term injury, I LOVE grappling and I don't know what the hell I would do if I was laid up.
And I can't walk this morning....
Sorry man..
Anymore I hate rolling with guys that big and avoid it for this very reason.
Same deal''thought'' it was hyperextened to find out 3-5 days later my meniscus was torn!Go get that looked at.
Sounds like what happened to me a few weeks ago and it was a grade 2 MCL tear.
Was told I could do light rolling after 6 weeks and have to wear a brace for a long time. Was going to go back sooner but don't need to mess it up anymore.
I would go get it checked out and get an MRI.
don't roll with porkers.
Or big spazzy ass whitebelts... Same thing happened to me about 6 weeks ago... Took two weeks off completely, then started to come back and drill and roll lightly with purples and above... My knee is still somewhat sore, and will take the holiday season off to heal completely, and should be 100% by Jan 2012 and be ready for Pan Ams
i think i did the same thing earlier this year wrestling with a friend. i think it was a torn mcl. it sounds like the same type injury since you are describing your knee being forced inward. mine was knee being forced inward while heel was planted.
i had stiffness for a while but it healed without surgery. i just practiced side mount escapes or surviving in side mount for a few months.
Hyperextended my knee (outside) from a judo trip. Initially, I didnt roll the rest of the night. Came back the next day, did a trip after taking the back standing, and it felt like jelly. Took seven weeks off. I later have had surgery on MCL but when they did scans, xrays etc, they could find nothing wrong with it. It still hurts every day. Be careful man. Hope it is nothing bad.
So the Dr looked at it and says he thinks it's probably a bruised meniscus and gave me some strong anti inflamatories and some Loratabs. Gonna give it till Tuesday to see if it's feeling better. If not we'll get a MRI.
