was stalling. Frank was the one who was stalling. Once he realized he could not get up or reverse Renzo he held on for dear life and begged for Herb Dean to stand him up. Watch the tape. Frank was clinching Renzo from the bottom trying to get standups. I think it is fucked up he can be rewarded for avoiding the fight.
There are two parts to the fight, standup and ground fighting. IS Chuck Lidell a pussy because he does not want to go to the ground? Of course not. He is a smart fighter who wants the fight where he has the advantage.
So why should Renzo standup with Frank when Frank has the edge there. Like any smart fighter he took the fight where he had the advantage, on the ground. If Frank was such a devastating srtiker why didn't he KO Renzo? IF he wanted to stand up so bad why didn't he avoid the takedown? Maybe because he couldn't.
People say Renzo did nothing. I say bullshit. He passed and achieved dominant position after dominant position at will. HE stopped Frank from reversing him and from getting up which is something Tito could not do. He was working for submission and finally got is a solid spot to go for the armbar when Herb Dean stood them up. Renzo also had Frank in a cross side crucifix at the end of round one and started dropping elbows when the bell saved Frank a second time.
Frank is a good fighter. HE is an explosive athlete. He is a solid submission fighter. He was reduced to hugging Renzo and yelling for help from Herb Dean. When that didn't work he resorted to illegal strikes. Why should Renzo carelessly go for a sub when he knew it wasn't available. He was slowly improving positon to achieve a submission. Any educated fighter saw what was going on.
Frank was taken down repeatedly. Frank could not get up. Frank stalled. Frank Cheated. Frank lost. People who say otherwise are uneducated in ground fighting or are Gracie haters.
We will never know. HErb Dean ruined what would have been a solid armlock attempt. But if the bell doesn't sound maybe Renzo TKO's Frank with elbows. It was quite obvious Frank could not get up and the elbows had just begun to drop. Too bad the bell sounded. Renzo deserved to finish him.
Koga get real. This wasn't the streets. There was no asphalt or sticks involved here. This was a sporting contest and one guy did not follow the rules.
Very strange to see the stand up rule. This sport is based on a foundation of ground fighting.
"It does not matter if Renzo would have won a bjj match by 30 points, fact is he lost the fight."
Have you not read 50 million posts explaining that : If knees to the head were allowed on the ground, Renzo could have kneed Shamrock into a coma while he was in side-mount. But he didn't. Because it was illegal.
So Shamrock wins the fight because he threw the damaging illegal blows first? Good logic.
lol at "Koga the gracie hater" Renzo could have easily kneed the shit out of Frank from the top positon if he chose to cheat. You my friend are a moron.
1 question bout the 15 second rule. Did Herb fuck that up? Cuz they announced the 15 second rule and then they put up a time limit on screen, and it was counting down from 15, Dean stepped in at 13, just 2 seconds later. Was he supposed to wait until it hit zero, or did they just put the graphic up too late? Was he supposed to just put a 15 second on them instead of stand them up at that moment?
I know Frank knows what he's doing but I can't really respect kneeing from the bottom like that as a good strategy... I mean that's what Bas did in his first Pancrase-fights (when he knew almost nothing about grappling)
Stand up rule was for Shamrock, but didn't seem strictly enforced. Shamrock and Showtime were both hoping for Henzo to lose. Shamrock coming back as a force at 185 would have been an amazing start for Showtime but it didn't happen. It wasn't the best show in the world, and I'm glad because promoters need to know that MMA isn't a quick money train you can jump on like poker. It's only getting huge because of the hard work, dedication, and respect that only certain people put into it, Dana White and Sakakibara included.
