I believe Mike Tyson would have won UFC1

Even without sprawl training I believe he would have been way too fast and powerful. He would have even been too fast for Gracie and probably would have caught him with an uppercut as he tried to come in.

Nope.

Royce’s little teep to shot move that he loved so much would have worked on Mike just like it worked on everyone else. Tyson had never trained for someone kicking him or diving for his legs. Shamrock would have taken him down too. Honestly, I think Gordeau might have given him problems too if he landed a few kicks before Mike got inside and destroyed him.

great thread

not even a 1/10 on the troll scale

UFC 1 was 3 years after Tyson lost to buster Douglas.....he was already sliding. Who knows.

well, if , Art Jimmerson made it to the quarter finals with one glove.....  nomsayin ?

He would have. I agree. Mike would’ve trained wrestling as he would’ve been so fucking scary.

For real scary bro

Tyson had to have had his share of street fights.  There is no way he never had to deal with someone trying to wrestle or kick him.

These threads are fun.

I agree.  Tyson takes it.  I get it, he’s a pure boxer... but...

Tyson was an animal.  A legit crazy ass over the top violent mother fucker.

he bit a guys ear off.

He’s an incredibly, off the charts athletic sociopath.  He definitely had a shot.

I'll take a coked up Tyson against anyone in UFC 1. He wasn't just a a boxer. He was a street fighter. Powerful, quick and still angry.

Though MT had some awesome skills, they required a couple things.

Both people wearing boxing gloves, a fairly small ring (compared to the cage in UFC 1), a guy trying to punch him, so he could evade and get inside, three minute rounds, and most importantly, a referee to break them up when they clinched.

It's not that hard to stay away ("run") from a guy trying to hit you with short power shots inside a very big ring or cage.

I'm not saying it's a certainty, but a grappler, BJJ guy had several chances, pulling guard, butt-skooting, clinching and once they're on the gound, it's over, in UFC1.

Steve4192 - Nope.

At the time, I actually think Shamrock woulda done better against him than Royce would have.

Shammy’s takedowns were likely better as a whole (especially active takedowns) than Royce’s. Shammy’s wrestling would have been better to manipulate Tyson on the ground. Shammy wasn’t nearly as good off his back, but he was still more than good enough to give a guy like Tyson problems. His subs also weren’t nearly as good as Royce’s, but again, they would have still been more than good enough to tap a guy without legit submission wrestling experience.

Shammy was way stronger & more powerful, which would play up his strengths that much more against a guy like Mike. Shammy’s active cardio (i.e. - how hard / long he could work without having to create luls in the action to conserve energy, which was a huge aspect to BJJ/GJJ then) was way better than Royce’s at the time. And Shammy had plenty of street fight experience too, which would (potentially) mean he’d have more experience with wild / erratic fight behavior from someone that wasn’t “trained”…if that makes sense.

Tyson himself does not think that he would have had any chance.

Tyson would have had problems with the guards at the Indiana Youth Center letting him out.

Other than that, Royce and Ken likely beat him, Gordeau would have been interesting though. Gordeau could kick, which might cause problems for Tyson trying to close the distance. The bigger question would be what Gordeau would do after Tyson closed the distance. Gordeau would know that Tyson is a huge threat to KO him, and what would he do to prevent that? He bit Royce. Would he try to bite Tyson? He later eye-gouged Yuki Nakai bad enough to blind him in one eye. Would he try that to push off and create distance? How does Tyson react to a bite attempt or eye gouge? Like I said to start - this would have been interesting, at the least.

UFC 1’s ref wasn’t BJM, it was the Brazilian refs that didn’t look that likely to be able to intervene. Part of me also remembers them saying on the broadcast that there were unlimited 5 minute rounds for that event (and only that event out of the early UFCs), but none of the fights went 5 minutes.

Seems like we have this fucking thread every week at the moment.

No he wouldnt have won. If Ken and Royce were not in it he would of had more of a chance.

This is what Mike Tyson had to say about Royce and Ken:

"White boy, faggot, you can’t touch me, you’re not man enough, I eat your ass all alive, you

bitch, can’t anybody in here fuck with this, this is the ultimate. Fuck you, you hoe! Come say

it to my face, you bitch. Come on you bitch, you’re a scared coward, you’re not man enough

to fuck with me, you can’t last two minutes in my world bitch. Look you scared now, you

hoe. Scared like a little cracker bitch. Scared of the real man! I’ll fuck you till you love me."

Actually, this is what he said -

“Well, in ’93, I was in prison, so there wouldn’t have been a fight, but there is no way I would have won. I had no idea what was going on with that type of fighting and would’ve been taken by surprise”, Tyson said.

“I would have had to train in that particular art of fighting before that happened. That’s a particular art. You’re not going to go in there with just your hand and not have a great ground game. You also need a great wrestling game to be successful, and you won’t be exciting, as well. You have to have both games. You have to know how to wrestle and box. That’s just the truth.

Tyson admitted that if he had been offered the opportunity to compete in the first tournament (and if he wasn’t in prison) his ego would likely have forced him to accept.

“My ego would have told me I’m the best fighter in the world with all the particular fighting aspects, and I would have tried it.”
