"I didn't do anything wrong"...Ariel Helwani

I remember when Ariel was first starting. He would come to forums like ours, post his interviews and I thought do a very good job of representing the fighters. But slowly as Ariel started to get more opportunities I noticed a change. He would be at a press conference or doing interviews at fights then ask fighters about situations unrelated to the one they were there for. It’s kind of a trap scenario for fighters instead of asking them off the record if they can discuss certain matters. This began building traction and several fighters told him they felt like he was “causing drama,” which he was. As Ariel got more followers and moved into higher visibility positions I’ve seen much less of that genuine care for the fighter’s story and more effort given to manufacturing drama. Why, for retweets, followers, and likes. The only fee has been his integrity.

Ariel’s main contributions to MMA have come via his reporting of UFC events. He has one of the top podcast, thousands of followers on Twitter, and works for one of the most popular MMA websites. But I rarely hear Ariel talking about anything that isn’t UFC related. So, as a person who claims to love the sport, really it just appears Ariel loves the being a part of the promotion that brings him the most attention. And that isn’t a bad thing, but he’s really never leveraged that to help grow the sport in general, just help grow Ariel.

Now he wants the journalist to unite, but I didn’t hear this from him when Loretta was banned, or Sherdog was not longer able to cover the UFC. The thing that put Ariel in the show was his talent as an interviewer. The thing that has removed him is wanting to be the show.

And now two very talented people who do contribute to the sport of MMA, not just the UFC are banned from the UFC. Ariel did do something wrong, he trading his integrity as a journalist in for fame.

Him wanting to be he show? Ariel always makes it about the fighter and never about himself. Ariel has his flaws and made a few missteps in this situation, but to say he was trying to be the show is just flat out wrong. Phone Post 3.0

You're all over the place. You're listing everything he has done throughout his career that you disagree with, but that is irrelevant here. He was banned as a direct result of reporting Lesnar at UFC 200 before the UFC did. Focus on the cause and effect here: journalist reporting MMA news = lifetime ban?

It's unfortunate that other people were dragged into this, but you can't blame Ariel for Zuffa's mafioso tactics.

Such a dumb way for them to handle this.  You don't go after Ariel, it's his job to report what he hears especially if it's true.  If they're that pissy about this leak then go after who leaked it to Ariel.  If that gets Ariel's source fired then Ariel will have to decide if getting clicks from the scoop is worth the job of the person leaking the info to him.  If that person has too much clout to fire, then consider why someone that high would be willing to fuck up a huge surprise announcement like this by being so unprofessional.  Stuff like this happens in the video game industry and I don't remember blogs being banned for leaking things they've heard.  The leakers however do get fired or blackballed.  I'm not sure a company would even try this kind of thing because of the obvious backlash it would cause.

He spent the entire 2 hours talking about himself today, instead of talking about UFC 199 and the two huge announcements about 200 and 202.

At least for today, he didn't only think he was the biggest news in MMA, but the only news.

You're a fucking idiot. Phone Post 3.0

Everyone listening wanted him to discuss the situation and he did. He gave the listeners what they wanted. He was clearly an emotional mess and wasn't in the right frame of mind to conduct interviews. Remember that this just happened less than 2 days ago.

I don’t really think I’m all over the place, just giving a timeline and a progression. I think and still think Ariel has tremendous talent as an interviewer. But his focus shifted away from that into more gossip which really took away from what got him where he was. Those infractions kept adding up and UFC 199 was just the straw that broke the camel’s back so they banned him. That really doesn’t stop him from doing anything other than interviews immediately after the fights in the back and not giving him credentials. He can still buy tickets, he can still report on events, he can still conduct interviews. He has just lost access from a company which feels like he was being difficult.

Are you mildly retarded? Phone Post 3.0

The shitheads of the UG are out in full force. Please proceed. Its always nice to see who the biggest fools are :)

Ariel got his name by being MMA TMZ, asking Arlovski how he feels that his ex was banging Sylvia.

Fuck 'em

Whether you agree or not with The UFC's stance or not, one thing we can all surely agree on is that the UFC handled it literally the worst way possible. If they would have quietly pulled his credentials in between events, or refused him credentials prior to the next event (not really sure how credentials work), this wouldn't have gotten half of the attention it has. Instead, they had a hissy fit and escorted him off the property, making themselves look like a bunch retarded man child's in the process. Phone Post 3.0
