We get random homeless or drunks that walk in from time to time in the middle of class. Most of them are mentally off, so it’s sad/scary/gross all at the same time.
I used to do exactly this withwi previous martial art I did . I had quite a few takers - none of whom could fight at all. They were mostly Kurdish early/mid 20 year olds .
That’s fair. If you’re going to challenge a man who makes a living in the world of fist fighting to a fist fight, you should likely make it worth his while.
I’m an electrician and I don't do electrical for free. why on earth should someone expect a martial arts gym owner to work for free?

The guy wasn't drunk or acting crazy. I think he was one of these YouTube warrior young and naive. I got suckerpunched before, at my age, 53, my senses are high every time I'm locking the doors.
I remember a few years ago around 2000 (okay 18 years ago now!) a purple belt buddy of mine was running classes mainly for white belts and it was a self-defense class that night. Some guy comes in and watched the class, and then says he want to “roll” with the purple belt to see how he is before he commits to training as he has trained quite a bit and wants to make sure its to his level, blah blah blah. The purple belt makes him sign a waiver, and then goes says “okay let’s go” and gets in stance with fists up. Guy was a little WTF is going on? He says “i just want to grapple”. Purple belt says “we are doing fight training and self-defense tonight, what’s it going to be, yes or no”? But the guy couldn’t back down now in front of others watching. Purple belts shoots in clinches (the challenger guy had some training) throws knees to groin, l hard reap and the guy down in side-mount and gets knees and fists to body about 6 times and one hard punch to face before verbally submitting.
Purple belt asks him to go again, guy shoots in weakly, purple belt sprawls and starts throwing knees to head face, and then face crank turnover into choke. End of story.
Guy now acts all humble and that he is interested in training and might come back and try out the class. Purple says not to bother because next time he will go harder. Guy never comes back.
I like how there is a waiver present for when shit like this happens. We’ve never had people just walk in and challenge people. Although it would be funny.
Two buildings and 10 years ago our gym was located in what passes for a ghetto in CR Iowa.
At the time we had a very good amateur boxing program and were home to one of the better mma teams in the Midwest.
We’d get homeless people, gangsters and all types of general tough guys who’d come in and want to “go a few rounds”.
Derrick was our resident heavyweight.
6’ 4”, 245, college wrestler with damn good Muay Thai.
”Hey D, glove up, we got one!”
They’d sign a waiver, pay $10 (hehe) and get worked. Derrick was good enough he could administer a well regulated beating and not hurt anyone and was strong enough he could eat the odd shot like candy.

... that seems... unneccesary.
No doubt , purple belts seems like a fag in this story
It used to happen all of the time back in 1994 when we started our first school. No one still knew what the UFC was, what Jiu Jitsu was or what real fighting was. We’d get traditional martial arts guys that thought they could fight come in every other week or so. It died out after a year or so…
Years ago, a guy came in and said that I couldn’t beat him. I said “ok, let’s go” and he turned and ran out the door, then came back in and said “See?”
for some reason, I decided to “fight” him again and was able to block his escape out the door, tackle him and choke him. He never came back
