the Oscar and Floyd "fight". I stopped watching PPV boxing fights and following boxing all together several years ago and I never missed it, even after being a huge fan for years, watching it EVERY week and training in the sport almost every day. I much more prefer MMA now.
So I order the fight with my brother after being sucked in by all the hype. I believed them.
But the fight SUCKED ! Two guys afraid to open up in fear of getting caught and losing. Then there are the judging....what a joke.
I will happily go back to never following boxing again because it is a joke. Any B level fighter would have owned Oscar and Floyd. Any Jr. High School level wrestler would easily take them down and pound them into tommorow. Good Bye boxing...forever.
Does this mean your leaving thr UG for good? OR not watching boxing anymore? Because after the jr. high thing I sort of wish you'd leave the UG for good. The fight was slow, I'll give you that. But when you have two guys as talented and skilled as these two are it's gonna be slow. But stupid comments like the B rated fighter one just make you look like a completer idiot. Sorry bro, just thought someone should tell you. Have a nice night.
yeah, i paid to see it also and will probably never get another ppv boxing event again. while i did enjoy the bautista/medina fight, the other 2 bored me. and i didnt think that PBF tried at all to end the fight. lame
Plenty of great cards out there and great boxing matches, you however are spoonfed by media hype, and dont put the effort in to watching the boxers out there who deliver great fights. You were a sucker for the hype and now cry like a bitch, but have no one to blame but your lame ass self. This goes for not only you but everyone slamming boxing out there because of this one fight.
It was great if you love technical boxing much in the same way many people on here like grappling - while the general public boos until the ref stands up an MMA fight, much in the same way the public was disappointed by the fight, while boxing fans knew what would happen and enjoyed the fight - that said, the buildup to this fight was definitely going to create a letdown... heck, the Berlin Wall falling would be a let down after that buildup, and it didn't help that this was a technical match, which pretty much everyone knew was what would happen before hand, but hey - when has boxing promotion been about ethics?
"technical matches are not well loved in any combat sport, except by people who understand the subtleties."
I thought it was a pretty good fight, personally, and was never close to bored, but I have to admit it didn't seem like there were all these "subtleties" and "amazing techniques" going on. One guy was kind of plodding and flat-footed, looking for a big punch but without the gas to really push it; the other guy just kept running and shooting a punch in now and then. Didn't seem like there was much to analyze or marvel over.
"The undercards were crappy. At least with MMA fighting, we get more action mr. boxing expert...."
This is a missing part of the puzzle, and something that separates the fans.. I usually enjoy the build up fights as much if not more than a main event. I think too many people get carried away with the name value attached to fights, and forget what they're there for... and the opposite is true, there's plenty of good boxing matches that aren't on these big shows. I usually tune in to whatever fox or ESPN serve up on a Friday night etc, and you'll catch some good fights.
I like MMA cards because the basis for my entertainment is watching the individual fights, not just the single main event.. when fights are matched up well and provide good competition, no matter the level, I'm entertained.
I payed and don't regret it one bit. It was a major event, didn't quite live up to the hype, but I wanted to see it live. I'm not rich, but 55$ aint much. A nice steak with a drink and tip cost about the same. The first fight was pretty damn good.
I prefer MMA over boxing anyday..but no "any B level fighter" would own Oscar or Floyd like you say
c'mon bro, in a mma fight, of course DUH, nobody would ever think bout standing wit them, they would easily get taken down and GNP'd till a ref stopped...but standing, get the fuck outta here man
36 minutes in a ring together and nobody gets finished .. never would happen in MMA for that long of a duration. Only boxing to watch is heavier guys where people do wind up crumbling. The undercard before the DLH-PBF fight was a total snoozefest ... I can't stand to watch these fights anymore. Old foagies in the crowd, the same HBO antiques announcing, dozens of rounds of pitter patter on the head .. shoot me now
