I think Frankie might be on to something when he said this at the end of his fight. Although he is a great, great fighter clearly something is hindering his abilities to finish/dominate besides the competition which is the best.
I have no idea what it is, what I'm saying is I never really thought of it before until he said it minutes ago and it really caught my attention.
what he really means is he always RUNS OUT OF TIME
Well that's no good either and needs to be addressed, no?
Stop dancing and start fighting more....
MMOZ -AlexanderTheGOAT - He's kinda like guida, but a stand up version. Moves a lot but doesn't land enough significant strikes.![]()
Are you seriously going to compare him to Guida?! I think Frankie is effective enough with his striking but he takes too much damage in the process. The amount of damage he is able to absorb is pretty impressive.
He does get smashed up every fight!
No disrespect, but I LOL'ed when he said that because its true. He is always in close fights and can beat just about anybody on a given day near his weight. Maybe he needs a new approach with his striking.
Is this a serious post?
bmd - I made a thread about this. The reason is because Frankie is really good, but not quite as good as his opponents.
He simply tries to outlast them by using his cardio.
So he'll lose the first 2 rounds to the more skilled fighter. Frankie is good enough to compete, but not good enough to win the rounds or do much damage.
The third round, the more skilled fighter gets a little tired, and this round is real close.
The last 2 rounds Frankie wins, because the other fighter starts to fade and Frankie is still going at 1st round pace.
This causes a lot of close fights whether Frankie wins or loses.
Valid point.
Frankie is a 6 round fight - he needs to start faster because now his run of championship fights are over he only has 3 rounds instead of 5
i thought he meant he thought he won but the judges didn't give him the nod. He sure acted like he thought he won right after the bell.

Interesting theory.

He said as much...Joe practically pulled it out of him. I guess you gotta say it though when you again do that ridiculous parade around the ring following a fight you lost. I guess I missed the actual quoted line, so I don't know when exactly he said it or what he referred to.

His last win was by tko.

Exactly.
Frankie's a point fighter (generally), and so tends to leave in the hands of the judges.
He takes advantage of the scoring system; the first 2 rounds were clearly won by Aldo by a large margin due to significant damage by Aldo and minimal if any by Frankie. However, by convention, this isnt enough to call it 10-8. The next few rounds afer that, he outlands his opponents, but there is never a sense that he is accumilating damage on them, particualrly, there is never a sense that the opponent is ever in danger of being finished or that things are even going in that direction. However, by convention, rounds with minimal or no damage are not given 10-10, but 10-9 to whoever happens to slightly outdo the other, and Franky's strategy aims to steal these.
Respect his heart and his will to fight, but I dont feel to sorry for a points fighter when the decision doesnt go their way
he moves and changes direction a lot, gets good angles but doesn't feint well. made it easy for aldo to jab or throw a straight counter. he also doesn't change speed or set on counters like aldo was doing. he does a lot of movements with his hands that aren't read as anything and the rest of the body isn't selling it either.
He's just a slow starter. He needs to hit top gear sooner.
I think it's deeper then a "start faster" issue, this is why it really caught my attention, he really seem frustrated as he said it. Maybe the result is a slow start but I think it's a deeper issue then that.
At his level (p4p talk) it's weird to almost the same style/fight 6 TIMES in a row! I never thought of it till Edgar said it himself
