I respect Manny Pacquiao's budo

Pacman and Marquez are two of my favorite boxers ever. The guys are just gentlemen.

Pacman moreso.

pacman genuinely respects where he came from and dont take anything for granted. in filipino tradition its bad luck to go out of the ordinary if your winning because you have to be the same way when you won the first time. a lot of it has to do with superstition. i think thats what keeps him humble

Wait, that's Budo? I thought that was class. A guy like Enson is undeniably Budoful, but he can be a thug at times. What are we talking about here?

DannyOcean -The only time he ever declined a fight was turning down an immediate 3rd JMM fight, and that was because he already had plans to move UP in weight, which is hardly seeking soft competition. He has never invited a smaller fighter to fight him at his weight. He instead only seeks to move up and fight the best fighters who are BIGGER than him. Instead of taking an easy 135 pound fight or an easy challenger to his most recent 140 pound title, he's probably going to be fighting a beast 147 pounder in Cotto.

This only makes Pac's budo even stronger.

he didnt duck JMM.JMM actually turned down $250K or something for an immediate rematch with Pac after the mathematical error of their draw.JMM instead took a $30k fight against Chris John that he lost.

Also Pac did fight smaller fighters inbetween big fights.but he fought tough and sometimes ranked smaller fighters. After JMM1 he fought 3kbattery,after morales1 he fought Hector Velasquez.after morales2 he fought Oscar Larios(former 122world champ),Jorge Solis(then 33-0) after Morales3.and kinda a stretch David Diaz too but he was bigger and a beltholder for 135.

 EKPOGI with the knowledge.

That Larious actually fought tough and took Manny to 12 rounds in their fight.  He did get beat up pretty good though.

His wife is hot. His budo comes from from booty

yeah, there was a round where Manny got tagged real good by Larios.Manny took two steps back and was stunned for a bit.but Larios is a beast, prior to Manny he lost to Israel Vasquez, and won a belt post Pacman.

I truly think Paul Williams is the best boxer right now,but Manny is no question the p4p king.

Some excellent posts on here. I, too, am a Manny fan. And I agree that he has both Budo and class.

Sometimes you get classy fighters, who are really nice guys outside the ring but lack that little spark of warrior spirit when they step in the ring. Somehow Manny manages to be a humble, classy, respectful and generous man outside the, all the while maintaining a desire and will to dominate his opponants inside the ring.

I don't think I've seen a fighter maintain that hunger to win like Manny does. He's at the top of his sport, a multiple weightclass champion, loved by the world, has tons of money. This is the time when most fighters start to lose the will and desire to push themselves, take risks, grow as fighters, and train hard for fights. Instead all we see is Manny constantly improving his skills and coming to fight in the ring like his rent/food money depends on a win. He still fights like a hungry underdog, even as a fabiously wealthy champ.

I'm starting to hear some comparisons with Mike Tyson, in that Manny brings that same intenseness to his fights. I'm not so sure that is a fair comparison. Even at his prime, there was something unhealthy about Tyson's ferocity in the ring. You could almost see the anger and psychosis as he swung at people. I don't see that in Manny. He is ferocious and intense in the ring, but for some reason it seems a lot healthier. I could totally be projecting here, but Tyson's hunger to destroy an opponant seemed to be about beating his own demons. Manny's hunger seems to be more about simple achievement.

Who knows? Feel free to flame away if you disagree. I could be totally wrong and will listen to all opinions. There just seems to be something special in Manny that I have not really seen before in boxing. He seems like the perfect combination of ferocity and mental health.

To me the "mental health" you mention is the way he just seems to take all the accomplishments, weight of a 100 million plus nation, etc aside and just focus on the task and love of the game.

I just cant get the image out of my head of him smiling and waving before his walk out for Hatton.

oldnslow  I know what you mean and my take is that Manny has an incredible amount of inspiration from his spiritual beliefs.  he always seems to talk alot about the holy spirit and leaving it up to God.   It's quite a burdon I'm sure to  know he represents and carry's a nation of a hundred million on his back.  a proud war trodden people who have suffered severe economic disdain for decades and yet retain a certain pride and belief.   Manny knows he represents something the people need, a country needs.  Inspiration, hope and a solid reason to believe.

he is blessed with talent and a purpose higher than boxing.

he goes into the gym, the ring and life embracing that purpose.

Paul Williams is an intriguing guy. I'll admit I don't know that much about him, but he seems awesome.
