Jacare was the champion and I feel that while Rockhold did great, he did not "beat the champ to be the champ". I mean, I felt that Shogun did a lot more against Machida in their first fight but the judges gave Machida the benefit of the doubt being that he was the champion. And I don't know what the commentator (Miletich?) was thinking when he said that Rockhold was winning the first two rounds. I agreed with the other one (Shamrock?) that Jacare was clearly ahead. Thoughts?

I'm not saying Jacare beat up Rockhold and that it wasn't even competitive. What I am saying is that I think that Jacare came closer to finishing the fight than Rockhold ever did and he won rounds 1, 2, and 4 clearly. It should've been a 48-47 decision win for Jacare or a draw at best, imho.

Plus you have to beat the champion. I didn't think Luke did that.

The fight was close, but rockhold was the one pursuing and pressing action. Don't agree with the UD but I honestly thought he haired out a split decision. Jacare did do more 'damage' in a few rounds but because of rockhold stalking and mixing in the kicks and punches(combinations sold the judges) he got by

Honestly bro, lol @ Jacare "getting the nod". The unanimous decision was a good call. Luke took it to him, for 25 minutes straight.

Its called "scoring the round a draw". Judges are allowed to do that, if they believe neither did enough to win the round.
My scorecard:
Rd 1: Jacare 10-9
Rd 2: Draw 10-10
Rd 3: Luke 10-9
Rd 4: Luke 10-9
Rd 5: Luke 10-9
Not a dominant win, but Luke did more than enough to win. In addition, Jacare did not show that he wanted to keep the belt.

He didn't stop him, but he definitely beat him IMO.
Just a couple points for new fans:
1. 10-10 rounds exist, but they are rarely given. If a judge thinks a round is a draw they can score it as such.
2. A unanimous decision is when all the judges agree on the winner. A split decision is when judges disagree on the winner. The actual scores make no difference. Thinking a UD should have been a split decision makes no sense.

I too was more agreeing with Shamrock than Militech. I thought it was a much closer fight then people are saying. At no point did Jacare really seem in trouble, where as Rockhold did, a couple times.
I think the aggression of Rockhold won him the fight. Dude was throwing some pretty high numbers per round. I thought it could have gone either way, honestly, but wasn't surprised when Rockhold got the nod.
I scored it 3-2 for Jacare but it was an extremely close fight. Rockhold threw a lot more but he seemed very ineffective, and Jacares punches did damage. Really close fight. I hope Jacare improves his striking and cardio Demian Maia style.
I had Jacare 48-47, but there was definately an arguement for Rockhold to win.
I struggle to understand how anyone gave any of the 1st three rounds to Luke. I completely don't understand...
All Luke did for the 1st three was throw a few leg kicks, get dropped on his ass, get his face pounded, got taken down over and over again and struggle to get to his feet after the take downs.

As much as I wanted Jacare to win, Jacare can't be given a pass because he was the champ like Machida was.. Jacare needs to work on his cardio so he can truly become elite at MW
