I tore my distal bicep tendon tme and tma.

I tore it three weeks ago tomorrow while rolling and am having surgery on Tuesday. I'm nervous about the surgery and recovery. I really hope I can get back to training like I'm used to. I'll be 37 on Friday. Yay! Phone Post 3.0

Aw man! That sucks.

Hope you have a full & speedy recovery!!!

Don´t worry you will. The first weeks after surgery suck because you can´t do much with the arm but when you take your time everything will be fine. I did my first push up after 3 month and my first pull up after 6 month. Besides the long break there where no negative effects. Everthing worked fine.....

Slow and steady wins the race, don't rush to be back on the mats and tap early when you finally do. Find yourself a good reputable physical therapist that's familiar with cases like yours and follow their recs.

You're gonna do great. Best of luck! Phone Post 3.0

I've had the surgery. Like Hilary said, find a good doctor.
There are a couple of methods to reattach the ligament. The best one is when they drill through the humerus, thread the tendon through and reattach on the back side with a titanium button. I forget the name, I'll look later and repost.

It's a long recovery process but I was able to do things like stance a motion drills pretty quick, I just made sure to wear my brace and just not use the healing arm. I started rolling (kind of) before I was supposed to but kept one arm tucked into my gi. I probably drove my trading partners crazy but they still worked with my crippled ass.

I also found a workout on military athlete that was for people with one arm, mostly kettle bell stuff. I'll send it to us if you want

Once I got cleared by the doc to do PT, I started doing a curling routine that I found online that a doctor(who had the same surgery) had put together. It was a lot harder then what I was given but was still using the advised weights. I think it started with 2 pounds. I'll see if I can find it.

There is a forum that deals with this injury and surgery. You can find it with a Google search. There is a ton of info about the surgical methods and rehab. Be aware that a lot of the people there just like to bitch and moan and take forever to get over it. Then there are some that buckle Down and rehab right and get over it quick. Unfortunately, those guys don't post much so a lot of the info will make you think you'll never get over it.

I don't remember the time line, but when I was cleared to roll, I was pretty much 100% and because of the curling routine, the arm was probably stronger than before.
I still tend to favorite though, just out of habit.

Good luck. I'll post more specific info later Phone Post 3.0

That seems like a really long time but I guess that is just how long it takes. At least it seems like after recovery things should be somewhat back to normal. Thanks yay! Phone Post 3.0

Bro, I had the same injury and surgery!  TWINSIES! YAY!

*high five (with the good arm) and chest bump*

FWIW, it's a very common injury among gluten eaters.

All sounds like great advice. I'm ready to get this surgery over with. I can't wait for the physical therapy part so I can feel like I'm recovering. I'll probably wait until I really feel good to get back on mat and then still light and roll slow. I plan on building slowly which will be tough but it is necessary. Thanks for the advice and the positivity. Yay! Phone Post 3.0

Think of all the extra time (and money) Mr Marsh can now spend in the OKC Whole Foods!  Best injury ever!

What do you call 2 bros with surgically repaired biceps who visit Whole Foods together?

This is an awesome amount of information. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Please send that one arm workout to eric.j.woodson@gmail.com. It will take me awhile to digest all of your info and I know I'll have questions later. Is it cool if I just ask them as they come? Thanks bro! Yay! Phone Post 3.0

Duh bro! So silly! I was feeling it on your bicep when Kate Upton totally interrupted and asked you for picture. I distinctly remember because you almost spilled your soy mocha frappuccino gluten free latte all over the darn store and that would have been a disaster because it was a venti! Yaaaaaay!!!!!!! I had that injury and repair surgery. Keep the wound clean and cared for. Follow the dr instructions to a fucking T. Go to all of the therapy prescribed. I went 3 tea per week for 12 weeks. Do the exercises to the best of your ability. The therapy will hurt, don't bullshit yourself. I have full extension and no other issues. I had the surgery in May and was doing pull-ups in November. Good luck! You'll make it. Oh, be careful sleeping with it. Be prepared. I slept in a giant chair because it supported my arm in a resting state. Phone Post 3.0

Tore mine. Just ignored it. It's been about 5yrs. It never bothers me

I'm just worried it will look deformed. Does yours look deformed? They told me it would heal by itself but would be best to get it fixed at my age. Phone Post 3.0
