It probably works just like any belt. You start your registration with whatever belt your ibjjf certified BB instructor signs off on.

The other tournaments are better anyways. Ibjjf is a point wrestling match, with the occasional submission. You could win the tournament without even attempting a sub.

The fees for judo & wrestling organizations provide services for members -- like insurance if they get injured while competing.
Who. Cares.
Sure, if you aren't a serious competitor, it is probably worth your while to show up to a Grappling Industries, register on the spot, pay a little less and get more matches in their round robin format.
IBJJF is expensive. And for that expense, you get a tournament run better than any other circuit, and a level of competition that other circuits don't come close to.
Anyone that argues those points either doesn't compete or is delusional.
And no one is fooled by the people whining about point tournaments to justify why they lose either.

I registered recently and the first time through they rejected my application because I didn’t have the dates of my promotion to blue & purple. I didn’t remember the dates, and I didn’t think it was important to list when I got my blue belt when I was registering at black belt.
But apparently, it’s really important. I didn’t have to provide any proof of anything, but dammit, they needed that date, even though my application and current rank was signed off on by a coral belt.
Called this when they first started charging purple belts
