Anyone use ice baths for muscle recovery or general health?
I've been looking at this lately, but the science is undecided regarding ice baths. I know a lot of elite athletes like the ice baths post workout, but is there really a noticable effect, or is it just a placebo effect? How about alternating ice and heat?
There are also supposedly some general health benefits to taking regular ice baths, but I'm a bit skeptical.
What say you guys?
helped a lot for me when i took it 2-3 times a week. muscle recovery and my joints felt better as well.
In. Im on the fence.about them as well but at this point ill try almost anything for recovery between work, lifting and kb
I do the occasional contrast baths..hot n cold...for me its noticeable the day after...not as sore for definite...i only do it after a ridiculous race or something not on the reg...usually ice after all leg workouts...and Epsom salt baths if muscles are tight or a small sprain
Not so much "Ice Bath" but when I have a shower after a tough workout I usually tend to go over the sore parts of my body with freezing cold water for a minute or two.
I've found that it really helps, even though It's only for a minute or two.
I think I'll try it here sometime soon and just see how I like it.
I do like cold showers, however my shitty ass shower only stays cold for like 10 seconds even on the coldest setting. And I know it takes a lot longer than 10 seconds to see any benefit (from what I understand, most people sit in an ice bath from 10-15 minutes).
I will do an ice bath after an extremely hard workout or a long run. I fill my tub up with cold water and add 2-3 bags of ice and sit in it for at least 10 minutes. Helps keep delayed muscle soreness down a bit . When you get out just wrap up and allow your body to warm up slowly. First few minutes suck,but you get used to it.
They are awesome but theyre kinda a pain in the ass to do regularly, I think ill get a horse trough n leev outside. Also I put a sock on my junk n it doesnt freeze as much cuz w/out that shit hurts.
I did a cold (but not ice) bath after every workout when I did smolov. Although this is purely anecdotal, i feel it helped me tremendously.
