It's to "raise als awareness" als is also known as lou gehrigs disease. I think it's a sad attempt at attention whoring. "Look at me, I'm donating money to some cause that barely affects anyone, let me simp a bucket of ice on my head and pay it on Facebook so you know I'm holier than thou"
