If the power went out tomorrow and never came back

Thought about this a lot lately. Considering it for the basic plot of a story. Regardless, to me, the thought is interesting. If the power went out, how long until all the stores were looted? How long until people were starving? How long until they accepted it wasn't coming back? How many people die? What happens a month in? A year? Five years? Would people come together, or spread apart? How long until cannibalism? What other things would happen?

Most of us have lost the skills to survive....would we find them? Would things work out? Within a year we would basically be in the 1800s, right?

I'm talking worldwide, international power grid somehow goes out, no communication at all. Nobody has power, and you don't know what's happening beyond what you can see. What the fuck happens?

I wouldn't have to go to work

Yay

Probably would die of starvation by December Phone Post 3.0

The Top men would never finish what they started. Phone Post 3.0

Very eerie to think about. Would be a good plot for a show. Phone Post 3.0

Sounds like the premise of One Second After.

All of those arts degrees will come in handy, that's for sure.

You should make a tv show about that scenario. You could call it "Revolution" or something like that. Phone Post 3.0

A powerful solar storm could cause major if not total disruption in out power grids. So, it's pretty possible Phone Post 3.0

There wouldn't be a need for my line of work...or not as much demand anyway Phone Post 3.0

Ok, I get it. It's not that original, but still. It could be.

A woman finds out she's pregnant the day it goes out

A man is on a hunting trip in Alaska and doesn't even know it's happened, thinks his plane abandoned him

A guy, five years after the fact, has a single engine plane at an airport full of jet fuel, all flights would be grounded asap, right? He can stay, or leave.

Obese lazy fucks convinced "it's coming back on." Waiting around to be saved

Religious groups pulling people together, preaching the end of the world

Cannibals, searching people out

Farmers protecting their homes

The possibilities are endless for a book series

Sounds fun to me

No idea is original at this point, what you do with it is..and yes, I'm looking for new angles for the story.

So what you got? Phone Post 3.0

Shelter would be pretty easy. Food not to difficult. Filtering enough water would be a problem if I had to deal with whole family quickly. The first couple of weeks would be difficult but I would assume easier once I got my pattern down.

That said, most people would be screwed.

UK drama "Blackout" , documentary style series following a cyber attack which plunges the country into darkness.

Was pretty good iirc. Phone Post 3.0

I'd never get to finish the Sopranos...

You know what should scare you more than the power going out?

The motherfuckers out there hoping it does.

Fuck! I knew I should have gone with electrical engineering instead of mechanical.... Phone Post 3.0

Having weapons and a lookout would be essential to survival, as well. Phone Post 3.0

I think my family would be fine. At least for a good while. We raise cattle and hogs, plant enough to feed us and stock up during the winter. Also plant enough corn to feed the live stock for a bit before slaughter so the meat is sweeter. Plus we hunt and know how to clean any game we kill.

The hard part would be protection, once people realized we were doing alright.

That's the thing about the South... you're not in a unique situation... there will be lots of crews like yours.
