If you liked The Real Deal...

...YOU ARE NOT A SERIOUS FIGHT FAN.

This card of mismatches was for noobs who don't know shit about the fighters involved to get excited about Pride's marquee boys.

You can appreciate it on that level, but if you thought it was a great night of fights, then I repeat:

YOU ARE NOT A SERIOUS FIGHT FAN.

Justice, I didn't say if you disagree with my opinion you are not a real fight fan.

I said if you fundamentally liked the group of fights, which were mismatches, on paper, and in execution, you are not a SERIOUS fight fan.

Haulport, Mauricio looked like a sambo champion against a guy who's defense against the toe-hold was to grit his teeth which is exactly my point.

Yeah, if you love the sport you'll watch this just to see if anything interesting happens, but the bottom line analysis on any night of fights has to be the ranking of the fighters involved AND the parity of any given match.

Last night we had some high ranking fighters but there was very very little parity. There is only one conclusion as to why this was the case:

The Real Deal was a showcase of fighters for noobs.

Glad you enjoyed the show.

It wasn't neccesarily for Noobs, it was to prove that Pride fighters are the best, or more specifically, better than americans, the nationality that makes up 90% of the UFC's roster. Also, mismatches make for KO's, subs and exciting fights, just what newbie fans want.

Coleman, big bad american, ex UFC champ beaten up by Russian Pride fighter

Coleman, big bad american, ex UFC champ beaten up by Brazil Pride fighter

Barnett, Big Bad American, the great white/American hope an instant hero for the White American public.

They had also hoped that Baroni would stand with Nishijima and get bashed.

DROC

droc, you said it wasn't necessarily for noobs, then argued that it was for noobs.

We're all saying the same thing here.

My exception is with those who are screaming about what an incredible show it was. They're exposing themselves as noobs. Whatever, we were all noobs once, I'm just letting them know.

Nobones, hendo vs. vitor was probably one of the closer fights of the night on paper anyway, but hendo was the favorite and he won.

Further he won for the exact reasons one would predict: Vitor's will (effort) disappeared at the first sight of a threat which Henderson is. The moment Vitor pulled guard standing this became all too clear.

The bottom line is that it is pathetic to tell anyone that they are not a "SERIOUS" fight fan, period. You are no one to judge that. Seriously, how arrogant can you be to think that you are qualified to make such a judgement.

Pronouncements like that are why there is a ton of quantity, and little quality in the way of posting on this site anymore. I got here in 97 and have watched the quality of posting go to hell because of very similar pronouncements.

Stop assuming your judgement is king, and go train my friend.

ov1, how about responding to my argument:

A fight's importance is determined by the ranking of the fighters and the parity between them.

The Real Deal featured high ranking fighters, but their opponents offered very little parity.

Therefore, The Real Deal was not a serious event and was not for serious fight fans.

The only reason The Real Deal was important, in the grand scheme of things, is because it was the first Pride event on US soil. But that seems to be the minority reason of why many on here liked the show.

Is it possible for a fight fan who likes snuff films and enjoy this PRIDE at the same time???

j/k

I enjoyed it because it set the production quality of MMA shows in North America to another level, not because of those mismatches. But to their credit at least we all know who the hell are those guys fighting on the undercard.
And please, children has no business in a MMA ring.

If you simply ordered it, you are a fight fan period. Not just another noob hanging from the UFC's nuts. Support the sport. My two cents.

so, this card, with,as you say, a bunch of high-rated performers against lesser competition, is more for noobs than an average UFC card, largely composed of one or two highly ranked performers and a bunch of REALITY SHOW STARS....???

The typical UFC is now a standard recipe for appealing to noobs.

You gotta be kidding me, Coop/qoop.

I agree with the Barrister on this one....retarded thread

Your "argument" qoop?
"ov1, how about responding to my argument:

Your "arguments" sound great linguistically, but they still aren't logical when it comes to establishing why your judgement is the rule when it comes to establishing who is, and who is not a "serious" fight fan. Your "arguments" are important to YOU, not necessarily everyone else.

You cannot tell me that I am NOT a "serious" fan, even when your criteria mean little to me. I just want to see competitors going at it. The caveat is that I train, and have trained directly under a Master level BJJ guy, have done so for nearly 10 years, and own quite a few schools with him. Are you going to honestly tell me that I'm not "serious", or that I'm a "noob"? I can assure you that I've been around this site longer than 99% of the people on here. I've been here since the membership was below 1500 members. And I've never placed a great importance on the criteria that you've listed. You just care more about the stats, thats all, period. It makes you a "serious" follower of MMA stats, nothing more.

The one thing that is factually and logically true in this thread is that you have a heightened sense of importance of your own opinion. You cannot fathom that others do not share your criteria for what makes for a "serious" fight fan. That in itself shows a lack of depth in thought.
