Ok, Anderson bitching about his rib, etc. Maybe, maybe not.
But I find it FUNNY AS FUCK that so many are against an immediate rematch with Chael Sonnen. Some in MMA fandom stupidfuckness, reason that Vitor Belfort is more deserving of the next shot?
Why?
Cause he beat Jim Carey?
If you're against Anderson vs Chael II, it's because you're an Anderson nuthugger and deep down you know that even though Anderson won? You know a second fight will be no good since he got his ass kicked the way he did.
And no Mark Munoz isnt the answer to teaching Anderson Silva how to wrestle. A filipino wrestling expert is like saying African Americans are good @ interior design.
Anyway, if you're part of the "Anderson had a rib injury and should fight Vitor next" crowd?
With all respect?
You're just afraid because you know Anderson can't wrestle
Sonnen was the challenger, and was defeated soundly, doesn't warrant an immediate rematch IMO. Chael needs a win against a top 5, and then the rematch.
Mind you I have never been a fan of anyone getting an immediate rematch, unless there was a horrible Ref or Judges decision involved.
instant rematch would be dollar signs for UFC, that was one of the best fights i've ever seen.
FUCK I HATE INSTANT REMATCHES.
chingluksuwa - FUCK I HATE INSTANT REMATCHES.
and there have been too many lately, especially involving title matches. i dont hate them so much, i just hate when they are handed out all the time.
I think an immediate re-match is called for in this case
Immediate rematch for sure.
EdSinister'sBottomBitch - Vitor has NEVER won a fight at MW in the UFC yet he's in line for a shot at the title. Such bullshit.
Vitor has won a HW tourney in the UFC, a LHW championship, just beat the last MW champ, and has won 5 straight; I think he has earned himself a shot in a division where nearly every other major player has already had a title shot and lost.

couldn't agree more. VTFU
Said it before and I'll say it again...
Sonnen vs Silva II
Vitor vs Okami
An immediate rematch is only necessary if the champion loses a close fight, or if there is a controversial decision. Sonnen lost decisively and does not deserve an immediate shot, I say give Sonnen a fight and if he wins (Maia rematch?), a shot at the winner of Silva/Belfort. That said I hope Sonnen fights Silva again and smashes him.
There is no question that the Silva Sonnen fight was spectacular and highly entertaining. However there have been far too many immediate rematches lately and it would be nice to see Silva fight Belfort and then fight Sonnen again. Make Sonnen have one fight in between the rematch.

Neither had Henderson, (205) and he got an immediate shot at the belt. Neither had Penn, (170) and he got a shot at the belt. It's not like some precedent is being set here. Vitor is a former world champion and demolished the former middle weight champion his last time out. Belfort has done plenty to justify a title shot. Not only that, the fans want to see it.
dabigchet - i don't like immediate rematches either, but if there ever was a case for one, this is it.
Exactly. Why are people bitching about a rematch? The fight was entertaining as hell. Let them go at it for a second time.
The OP is correct. The only people that don't want a rematch are Anderson fanboys because they know he'll get worked again.
Wovito - This doesn't make sense. Silva is the champ, not Sonnen. So what happens if Chael wins a close rematch? A trilogy? It does make sense. The UFC makes fights people WANT TO SEE. If they gave fights to deserving fighters, Fitch and Okami would have had 3-4 title shots by now. Brock would not have had a title shot after going 2-1, and Randy wouldn't have gotten so many title shots after having a terrible record.
I mean, why wouldn't you want to see the rematch ASAP? It was entertaining as hell. Are fanboys scared that Anderson is going to lose?
Bullshit. I'm an Anderson fan and don't want the rematch because I've already seen this fight, just like Werdum and Fedor. I'd just rather them both do another fight so that we could have something fresh before the end of the year and then do it again right after that. It's an entertainment decision, if Anderson loses then that's on him, I don't want the second-best fighter as champ. I just want a bout seperating this one, no more no less.
Chael was finished. The fight could have had three 10-8 rounds at that point, but despite it all, Anderson tapped Chael. End of story. The Guy was finished, so it's back to the line up.
Ratings-wise, Chael's great. Fight-wise, he's not even 2nd place.
IMO, immediate rematches should only be if the champ loses. Chael had his shot but blew it.
Vitor should be up next.
An immediate rematch is a slap in Anderson's face. Yes, he was losing badly but he came back and won. I have no problem with a rematch after 1 or 2 fights, but not just yet.
How could anyone NOT want to see a rematch of that fight?
