Igor Vovchanchyn at IAFC 32 man tournament (1995)

In November 1995 Igor Vovchanchyn entered the legendary Absolute Fighting Championship 1, 32 man tournament in Moscow, Russia.

Other notable participants; Tra Telligman, Maxim Tarasov, Alex Andrade, Victor Yerohin, Adilson Lima, Andrei Besedin, Mikhail Illoukhine, Ricardo Morais

Vovchanchyn vs Sergei Akinin  -  IAFC: Absolute Fighting Championship 1  (11/25/95)  1st Rd

Vovchanchyn vs Adilson Lima  -  IAFC: Absolute Fighting Championship 1  (11/25/95)  2nd Rd

Vovchanchyn vs Mikhail Illoukhine  -  IAFC: Absolute Fighting Championship 1  (11/25/95)  Quarter Final

I wonder if Alex Andrade was with the Lion`s Den at the time of this event? (I know that he was in 2000)

Anybody know?

I do think that both him and Telligman were with the Lions Den, iirc they mentioned it during the event, could be wrong haven't seen the first half of that tournament in years.

TTT for IGOR!!!!!

Would Telligman and Andrade have scrapped?

Besedin had a previous sub win over Vov too.

thanks for another great one Pro Ice

Seriously, Pro Ice is one of the few worthwhile reasons to keep coming back to this place.

And we appreciate it.

You're welcome Nexus and thanks for the kind words Helwig

Imo Vovchanchyn was in his prime, physically around the time the fights in this thread took place and I believe if he were fighting today this is what he'd physically look like.

He'd more than likely fight at 185lbs, at 5'8' it'd make the most sense. Cut to 186 walk in around 195.

The quickness, strength and athleticism Igor displayed at this weight was really unbelievable, and I can't think of many fighters today that compare.

Combine those attributes with the fact that his overall game, tdd, sub d, ect would be even better, if in his prime today. and Igor = a tough fight for ANYONE at any weight, but really a nightmare for anyone his own weight!.
