I'm in Kehei, Maui - TME

Plans changed from going to Lahaina and we ended up in Kehei.

It's my first time in Hawaii and any hints, tips and/or suggestions would be awesome.

I'm here with the wife and kids (6 and 9).

Just looking for some good beaches, restaurants, and cool shit in the area.

Thanks to all you guys who got in the Lahaina thread. Phone Post 3.0

Ululanis Hawaiian Shave Ice and Coconut Fish Cafe were both really good and both places you can take the kids. Phone Post 3.0

Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice Is fantastic
Stewz burgers also very good.

Get surf lessons for you and the kids. Lahaina isn't that far and is a great day trip. There is a beach called baby beach near there that is really mellow for the kids. Phone Post 3.0

I loved how you could walk around the stores and shops in shorts, flip-flops and sunglasses, while holding a beer, and no one cared.

Also, there is something rejuvenating about that place. I found myself getting up early for a run, and then kicking my shoes off for a swim every morning. I'd never do that in California.

Also Kehei Canoe Club is right across the street from Ululani's in North Kihei. I think on Tuesday and Thursday mornings they'll take beginners out with them on outrigger canoes. A cool and fun experience if u never did it.... Phone Post 3.0

Stray... You just staying there or island hopping? Phone Post 3.0

if you want to see amazing scenery, drive out to Kahakuloa. Very isolated (but safe) - try some of the fruits from guys selling out there - some of the sweetest pineapple with no bite

or, drive to Hana

careful on either drive though. roads can be a bit hairy near cliffs. after rains like they had recently, should see some epic waterfalls
