I'm sick of the free advertising too.
However, I'm not only referring to stores, but to people who use this
forum for self promotion, press releases by promoters tooting their
own horn and bullshitting fans, clothing companies and nuthuggers
that sound like they're paid by clubs or events to promote them.
We've all been guilty of it at one time or another but some abuse of it.

Hmm, you're completely missing the point. This is not an advertising forum and when more than half the threads are advertising stuff, something is wrong. Advertisers having their own forum seems like a good solution.

This is not "not a advertising forum". This is a public forum available to the public. There's no rules against people advertising if it's related to the topic of the forum. The reason it looks like it's all advertsing is because nobody else posts non advertsing threads. The ratio is a little off.

Semantics. Most of the people who frequent this forum don't do it for the advertising.

I guess that's one way to look at it. Another way is to say there is too much advertising.
Frankly, I don't particularly care that much either way. I just thought I'd add my support to the OP. It really is not that difficult for me to give my business to non-spammers and non-billboarders.
I just find it funny that people people complain about the ads. It's like watching TV and cursing all the commercials. We have to accept that we're labeled as customers and corporations wanna sell to us. This is nothing new. We have the choice to either become that customer or not. Of course they ttt their threads, do lawyers not aim for penetration? I'm sure we'll all have more to talk about on this Canadian Forum once more provinces regulate this fine sport.
