I was reffing this weekend in Georgia and an entire team put down as their team name "In Memory of Evan Tanner." I thought that was a beautiful gesture.

Dana better induct him into the HOF. Failure to do so would be so rude.
RIP Evan. :(

Class Gesture!!!
I want to ask a question to you Mr Evil and be respectful at the same time. Why should Dana put Evan in the HOF? Would he be a HOF fighter if he he did not pass away? I think the HOF should be for the elite and the elite only and to do it because of his passing would be wrong to not only the HOF but Evan.
" think the HOF should be for the elite and the elite only and to do it because of his passing would be wrong to not only the HOF but Evan"
I agree Voice, however, being a world champ kind of makes you "elite". Im not sure what the criteria should be..What are your thoughts?
Evan Tanner = HOFer imo. World champ, first non-Japanese Neo-blood winner, had some championships in smaller orgs. Elite imo.

ttthoughtful
the fact that he started out teaching himself everything and won the belt is enough for HOF IMO
Evan was a World Champion. Before joining Team Quest he was primarily a self taught grappler/fighter. That says alot about his athleticism and his work ethic on the path to becoming a World Champion. Regardless of how long it lasted Evan was indeed an Elite Fighter for a given amount of time. The Hall of Fame also is indicative of more than just being a Champion. It also involves the character of the person. Their philanthropy. Their legacy. Their purpose. Etc.
Character: Evan was a fighter and a great representative of the sport, in and out of the cage. He made mistakes and had some rough patches but it never affected the sport negatively and he always fought to put things right. He was a man of great character.
Philanthropy: He was one of the most charitable athletes in the sport. He gave so much of himself to other fighters who were struggling as up and comers. He provided a home and coaching for many young athletes. He did these things when he didn't have that much for himself. He was selfless.
Purpose: Evan fought for a purpose. Not for fame or glory. But for a way to show people that they can make a difference. That if you 'Believe', you can change the world. He impressioned so many people with inspiration that this alone, in my opinion, marks his place in UFC history. His platform was bold and strong.
I wholeheartedly support Evan being put in the Hall of Fame.
Regardless of HOF, great gesture by the team.
I think what would solve this is to ask the current HOF'ers. It would be cool to see them all induct him...
I got off the subject of this thread... sorry. That really is a great gesture that this team did in honor of Evan. Very classy.
