Last night needs to be put in context. Off the top of my mind, the following incidents are at least as bad as Khabib jumping the cage to attack Dillon Dannis. Included also is what happened to the fighters post-incident:
-Strikeforce Brawl: Diaz brothers go on to make millions of dollars in superfights and Shields and Gilbert fight for UFC titles.
-Paul Daley suckerpunches Kos after the fight. Daley banned from UFC.
-Jon Jones attacks DC: Jones continues his reign as champion and suffers few consequences.
-Bus incident: Conor loses some money en route to hyping one of the biggest fights in UFC history.
-Renzo: Renzo steps on Spikjers’ head; kicks Marquardt in the face after the fight. Renzo becomes the most loved man in MMA.
These are just a couple. The long and the short of it is that this will blow over.
Worth noting that none of these incidents should be seen as pathologies of a community. There was nothing unique to Islam/Dagestan/209/Binghamton New York/England/Ireland about any of these incidents. They speak only for the behavior of the involved fighters.
How about Renzo getting stabbed by a guy outside the cage through the fence while he was fight Tadeu (sp) and then a riot kicked off down in Brazil in like 93/94?
Who remembers the Shamrock Ortiz brawl after the fight and Tito had the shirt I think if I remember correctly said fuck the lions den. I may be wrong about what the shirt said but if I remember the incident correctly all hell broke out. OG’ers would probably recall the incident better.
Yep, “Gay Metzger is my bitch”, Tito put it on after the second Metzger fight that was the UFC 19 main event. Ken jumped into the ring and a couple other Lions Den guys did as well. They were all wearing camo pants and black Lions Den t-shirts. No punches were thrown though.
Original main event was Vitor vs Metzger and Tito took the fight after Vitor withdrew.

All of these pale in comparison. Not even close.
On the biggest stage with millions around the world watching on live television, in the biggest sports event of the year, live, a guy jumped into the crowd doing a flying kick into the crowd to attack an opponents cornerman.
This is a major setback for the UFC, and the craziest thing to happen (live on television) in sports since Ron Artest attacked a fan in the stands that I can think of.

They only pale in comparison if you started watching MMA in 2017.
None of them except for Daley pale in comparison when you combine stage with severity.

Holy shit this. The Diaz/mayhem brawl was crazy as hell.
Also mcgregor going after the ref should be on be list. That’s the number one no no in sport. You don’t go after a ref.

Absolutely. Conor going after a ref in the fight that he wasn’t even cornering. That was insane.
