Incompetent UFC Judges - 20 years after!?!

Will UFC judges ever understand that top position in the sport of MMa means nothing if no damage is done...

Will they ever understand some fighters actually feel comfortable from bottom position...

This is ruining a great new sport....Judges that DO NOT UNDERSTAND MMA!!! after 20 years!!!

Fighters are forced to fight a certain way to get victories, it's ludicrous no one of power is doing anything about this!?!?

I wouldn't say it means NOTHING. I mean, at the very least it is "octagon control".

It's "MMA judges" not "UFC judges" UFC does not choose who the judges are, and these same guys work every other MMA event as well.

Being a fighter Leigh...don't you get frustrated about this?

ttt

i dont think anyone wants to be on bottom anymore.

top = octagon control.

that said both guys should be actively striking or attempting subs/passes

hey, the guy is having a rant about people not understanding how the sport works. cut him some slack

Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Otter: Germans?

Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.

Im sure they could make a very big push to at least improve or educate the general level of MMA judges appointed.

And top control in itself is certainly not nothing. It comes down to who is doing more in guard. But we obviously know UFC judges (yeah, UFC judges) will generally favour the top guy even if the bottom guy is dictating the action more.

most likely another generation of refs will help

Agreed Wasa-B - maybe i was a little harsh with nothing... as you state "UFC judges / MMA will generally favour the top guy even if the bottom guy is dictating the action more.

Every MMA candidate for judge should be forced to score a replay of the Nog-Ricco fight until they can do so with Nog winning.

Not really, because that decision was pretty bad.

MMA is too hard to judge so a lot of judges look for things that tell them a fighter is winning to make it easier for themselves. For example, a take down means that fighter is winning, instead of judging what the fighter does with the position.

Not all takedowns are the same. A fighter that falls and lands into guard isn't the same thing as a slampage, or even the same thing as a technically executed throw or shoot. Takedowns shoud be worth something if they involved any effort. I think it's important to consider this claim when criticizing the value of "cage control."

There's a flip side to this.

When a guy is on top and delivers 40 blows from the top, but attempts no subs, and the guy on the bottom attempts 3 subs, one that comes close, people here cry that the judges don't understand the guy on the bottom really won the round.

Some judges are good and some are bad. With very few exceptions, most of the controversy has to do with rounds that could very reasonably be judged either way.

How long have judges been around for the UFC? Shit the UFC has only been around 16 years.
