You guys got any tips for increasing untimed push-ups and 1-minute timed sit-ups for a PFT?
I'm currently at around 44 push-ups and 45 1-minute timed sit-ups. I'm doing weighted push-ups for 30 reps and weighted 30-second sit-up rounds, usually about 4-5 sets each. Other days I try to bang out a few sets of sub-maximal push-ups and sit-ups....kind of like the Pavel grease-the-groove technique.
My max strength is decent, but I don't have enough time to improve that materially before the PFT.
Pyramid push-ups...like start at 10 then work down to sets of 9, 8...etc to 1 then back up from 1 to 10. Work in different hand stances as well. Do a rep of wide, then normal, then close grip and work back out to wide. Seemed to work for me, went from 68-70 push-ups in two minutes to low 80s in a month or so.
We've got a taker!!!
Thanks StonedPanda. You doing these circuit style so you get some rest between each set? Like push-up, sit-up, pull-up, all pyramid style.
Im starting to realize that there's probably not a perfect recipe, but rather, just do them more frequently. With weight, without weight, fast, slow, different grips, etc.
