Inside the U.W.F Dojo Video

here are some video clips inside the UWF Dojo. First clip is Yoshiaki Fujiwara who is the head teacher and a very young Akira Maeda. Pretty much Fujiwara is Hooking the bejezus out of some poor guy.

2ed clip is Fujiwara takeing some poor reporter and Hooking the shit out of him ( and no the guy did not have Fujiwaras comsent to hook him he just out right grabs the guy and Hooks him)

P.S Ive never Met Karl.. as all you may know i have my Opinion on him. But one thing..I think Karl was a very no Bullshit type of guy in those days look at his students from how akira maeda treats his guys to how Sayama treats his guys and how Fujiwara treats his guys.

so with that being said these videos are not for the weak at heart... you have been warned.

the best part wewe those girls shaking their asses at the end of the last video.

Drinking Sake while training? LOLOL

Thanks for the links mow!

You said that was Maeda...I for some reason thought it was a super young Funaki. I know I was wrong.

i guess no guts no glory huh?

I don't know how much was Karl and how much is Japanese culture. Karl has seen how Sayama treated his students and was aghast.

From my personal experience, Karl is an excellent (non-abusive) coach that expects excellence. He got me to kick over in a bridge with only 15 minutes of advice.

Sayama the ass hole:

From what I hear Gotch isn't an asshole man, but these guys are crazy. Jake is Gotch the best teacher you ever had?

Well Karl is pretty limited in his mobility so most of the instruction has been via verbal instruction (although he did get down and throw a wicked crooked head scissor on me). He is really awesome, really honest, the real deal.

It is hard to say who is the "best". Each teacher brings new ideas and inspirations. I feel lucky as hell to learn from all of them (and I do my very best to share what I've picked up).

Let me just say this, the SW Certified Catch Wrestler designation is going to be AWESOME for those that participate...

ttt for those vids.

Didn't Karl have double hip replacements done a few years ago?

Jake, you should have actually competed in a catch wrestling tourney before being certified to teach it. It's kind of an Oxymoron, like me teaching soccer and never having played it before in my life.

There is positive and negative factors, but I think personally (and I'm just one person, I'm definately not the smartest on this board) you should wait untill after you have a few competitions.

(From my personal experience, Karl is an excellent (non-abusive) coach that expects excellence. He got me to kick over in a bridge with only 15 minutes of advice.)

what would you say about Fujiwara? ive seen both of his submission master tapes when aplying holds he seems..well outright brutal dont ya think?

Karl told me he once roughed up Sayama really bad for beating on the trainees. Karl never physically hurts anyone. He believes in hard work, but does not like hitting people or hurting training partners.

Karl is actually a "mental" style coach.

Hey, where can I find more DVD's of UWF & PWFG? Especially training and behind the scenes stuff.

Nick, I couldn't agree with you more. That is why there will be legit catch wrestlers there to proctor the certification and you will be wrestling under catch rules PLENTY to earn the designation, trust me ;^)

One purpose of the designation is to generate interest in competitions. Last thing I need to do is pump money into a tournament only to have it be a ghost town. Believe me, I've heard ghost stories about promoters taking a bath.

By far the biggest reason people tell me that they don't practice catch is because they tell me they don't have someone to learn from. With the SW Certified Catch Wrestler designation, they will have qualified instructors that will have been tested and put through the 'catch wrestling' gauntlet in an objective way under the scrutiny of REAL catch wrestlers.

mow, I would say Fujiwara is more "hands on". That being said, I think that everyone present at both clinics can attest the Fujiwara was no more rough than Wade Schalles or Mark Schultz.

I agree Laren, Karl is definitely a mental coach.

Hope this helps!

I honestly have conflicted feelings about it. I think that of all the guys claiming to know catch Scientific wrestling is the most authentic, has the most respect behind it. Like Boxing and Freestyle wrestling, you should be OK'd by some sort of committy, espesially one that is respected. BUT I think becoming a coach without having a competition background in catch is not only redundant but BULLSHIDO.

I like the idea though, just think that you should wait untill after you have a few tournaments.

Hopefully in the future I can take advantage of the fact that you have the best resources and have myself be verified a catch teacher AND train with Wicks, Cardinal, Gotch or Fujiwara...

No one said you'd be a coach after certification. You can't be a coach
without a competition to send your guys to, IMO.

The SW Certified Catch Wrestler designation is something different:
PROOF. This cert signals the end of the days when people would
perpetrate that they are the "king of catch" or whatever
while never having wrestled under Catch rules before authentic Catch
Wrestlers.

In order to maintain certification there will be exacting live wrestling
requirements (three 12 minute matches in front of the board). There
will be minimum proficiencies in multiple areas tested as well. I venture
to say many will not be able to fulfill the live wrestling requirement but
they will have the chance to re-test until they do.

Now regarding competition, if you were going to take your personal
funds and start a tourney like I am going to, you damn sure want to
make sure people actually show up to wrestle under tourney rules.

The first few ISWA tournaments are a great example, they were a ghost
towns from what I understand. Imagine for a minute it is your money
or worse, you going into debt to bring back catch rules competition,
how would YOU go about insuring participation? If you have a better
plan, I'd sincerely love to hear it.

This purpose of this designation is to cut through the exaggerations
and misinformation and to promote PROVEN live and active CACC
wrestling. To give people the confidence to build their own clubs and
to connect them to the historical tapestry (sorry can't think of a less
dramatic word) of catch wrestling.

If you had any idea of how many people email me, sick of the BS and
want to learn CACC and have their wrestling scrutinized by men that
practiced CACC, then maybe you'd warm up to the idea.

Anyway, I understand your skepticism, and welcome it. Just don't be
hasty in your judgement if you don't fully understand what it involved
with the audit process. Wait to call "bullshido" until after the first batch
of SW Certified Catch Wrestlers earn the designation...

Or we can go back to the days of internet tough guys, LOL.

;^)

Anyway, enough hijacking of mow's thread. There will be more info on
it in coming weeks, stay tuned.

those clips with the bamboo canes seem a little extreme to me, but then again I may not seeing it in the proper context. And I'm not Japanese.

because if you WERE Japanese, bashing you students over the head with a bamboo cane would be a totally rational thing to do.

Maybe as rational as seppuku, or those crazy game shows. :)

Human action is rarely based purely on principles of rationality, but can perhaps be understood (though not necessarily condoned) if placed in socio-cultural and historical context.

I wonder how common these harsh methods are/were in Japanese martial arts training.
