I finally lost the battle and got a phone for my middle schooler.
I set up the parental controls to restrict content, etc but looking for an app that can allow me to view texts, search history et al.
I looked on the app store and there are a ton, so just looking for some first hand info.
Gracias!

I set up the find my friends app on my daughters iPhone. More for safety reasons - very easy to use and gives me peace of mind

Well he is 11 so....
he will be getting himself on the bus in the morning. No home phone. Trust me not an easy choice.
There are tons of options, my kids are too young so I don't use any myself but on the iPhone if you set up the restrictions you can disable any app. Disable the messaging app and turn off imessage and download your carriers messaging app. Within that app their should be an option to set up some kind if integrated messaging that will allow you to receive her messages on your phone or tablet. Establish a rule now to set a lock code to prevent friends from using the phone and that you have free reign to check anytime you want, the second she doesn't want you to see the phone there is a problem. I've worked for Verizon fit over 7 years I've seen my share of, I never thought my kid would do this. Any specific questions just ask.
