Tito who was probably somewhat overated for a long time is now being underated in thread after thread. I think he'll surpise alot of people as he goes back on a winning streak in the future.. People are forgetting just how good Tito was.
It won't surprize me Tito is very good, he just got owned by Randy. Chuck on the other is overated.
I agree FCM. I have a weird feeling he's gonna expose Chuck badly.
Tito, a bit like Silva, didnt get top notch opponents most of the time, or to be more accurate, didnt fight much in the last 3 years, but I truly beleive he is one of the best.
Randy OUTWRESLED him, but not much else - and BTW I rooted for Couture. He didnt pound him, or sub him, or outsrike him ... though he did spank him!
How many guys at 205 can outwrestle Tito? Chuck, Randelman, Randy (of course)? That's Tito's strenght. Few can counter it. And he looked fluid in his strikes against Randy - the few times he could. We all know his cardio is top notch. And nobody has come close to submit him after the Mezger guillotine.
The 205 division is IMO the most stacked with talent, and any top 10 guy can beat another in a given night. So even if he did lose, he wouldnt be no slouch. Wanderlai, Rampage, Chuck, Randy, Vitor, Tito, Ninja. Ouch. That's one tough division! Chuck may lose 3 in a row, he'd still be a top fighter too.
Another case of fans' "what have you done lately?"
The question is, if he wins will it be exciting(KO or submission) or will it be the same as the majority of his wins(boring GnP to judges decision)? He may be a better fighter than Chuck, but his fights are boring.
IMO, Tito has the potential to dominate the MMA game in every aspect, but he always does the same boring shit. It's like having sex with a super model who just lays flat on the bed like a dead fish. Sure, you can get your nuts off but it was boring.
Tito will NOT be able to do anything to Liddell. People say the Iceman was exposed? How so?! He lost to 2 of the top LHW's in the world. Chuck fought the best on many occasions, and lost a couple. Big deal, sure.
Tito on the otherhand has fought 1 top guy in the last 3 years, and he got dominated (44-50). All he wanted to do was survive the fight and make excuses afterwards.
Styles make fights, fellas. Tito won't take him down at will if at all, Tito won't be able to keep Liddell down should it happen, Tito won't be agressive and in his face with strikes, Tito won't be able to handle Liddell's power standing up (where the fight will be).. I just can't see Tito owning the Iceman. Both Rampage and Couture are more well-rounded fighters than Tito has ever shown, that has nothing to do with this fight IMO.
And I'm wasted, peace.
Assuming Chuck is overrated, at least he has exciting fights and exciting wins. 4 KO's in Pride and UFC. That's exciting! You know you're in for a hell of a show when the Iceman fights.
Tito's fights are just boring. The fights he lost are the most entertaining ones.
ttt
I won't really know if tito is over or under rated until he fights some more top level comp. the only top 10 guys (current top 10) he has fought is Silva and Randy
Chuck has to seriuously bring it
Tito is def. one of the best at LHW.
Many overate him, many underate him.
But i think it has a lot to do with the fact that you either love him or hate him (and not so much an assessment of his skills).
Styles make fights especially for Tito. He's a great wrestler and some good basic Thai skills when he's the superior wrestler. But against Randy that all went out the window because he was battling to stay even in the clinches and eventually was outwrestled there.
However I think a better striker/lesser grappler quotient type opponent will always have trouble with Tito. He can use his wrestling as a base to take the fight down. And graplping is 80% of the game. He beat Silva (better striker, lesser grappler, limited subs) and Shamrock (super strong but not as good a wrestler, not as good at striking). I think tito will always be tough but vs. Chuck he'll look awesome.
Both the Tito vs Shamrock fights were boring?
Tito's KO slam on Tanner was boring?
hmmm
not that many fights, but not that many were boring either.
I guess it's a matter of perception. HIs fights are alright, but I find his methods of winning boring. I like to see a fighter who goes for and gets the KO's and/or submissions. Yes I know Tito has one of each but they were both kind of lame.
Obviously, I'm not knocking the man's ability. IMO he just seems to wear down his opponents instead of putting them away. You'd think by his bravado and hype that he is a KO machine, but he's not.
It's fighters like Chuck, Lawler, Vitor, and Tank who seem to fight for the KO instead of the W that keep fans like myself interested and wanting to see more.
Newton, Brennan, Mir, and the Shamrocks also keep me interested because they seem to alway go for the submission instead of the W.
