I used to be very involved in the process (campaigning, canvassing, voting, etc) but I've recently become extremely apolitical. Looking back, I think it was because of how involved I was (I'm ashamed to admit this but I was a delegate for Huckabee back in the '08 primaries) yet how little my effort affected anything at all.
Even at my local level, I no longer have any interest in participating. Don't get me wrong, I'm still informed and have a desire to be a productive member of my community... but I've found that I have had more success in spreading my influence through personal discourse and personal relationships with my neighbors as opposed to campaigning for a politicians and soliciting votes.
Has anybody else become apolitical as a result of being involved in politics?
Is it a bad thing? Yes. But I can certainly understand how someone becomes apolitical... It's frustrating knowing that things completely beyond your control have such an overwhelming impact on your life. At some point it feels like you're just hitting your head against a wall.

Your last sentence nails it for me. VU for your input!
Fucking nihilists Dude
Honestly I'm in the anarchy bandwagon with OP. Politics are meant to manage the government as effectively as possible yet most people treat it like a sport/philosophy cheering for their favorite team.
Being extremely political and being apolitical seems to have to same impact on the world around me so I don't see a problem with it. Blame the two party system, the electoral college, the news, the politicians themselves but don't blame me for refusing to run on the rat wheel anymore. Make a positive impact on the people you personally interact with and call it a day.
Used to study and follow politics so much it was an obsession. Since my little brother died recently I decided it's a waste if my time and not important. Only stresses me out and you can't change people's minds. I spend my time on family and friends, and let things slide.
TFK_Bro Lo El Cuñado -I'm not quite the conspiracy theorist and I think Joe Rogan's a retard, but I do agree that none of politicians have the interest of the nation or people at heart. That said, there are significant differences between the parties, and while the current incarnations of both parties piss me I think it is important to remain political and care about the direction of the country, if only for the sake of our children and grandchildren. Politicians want us to be apolitical. It allows them to get away with more dirt and remain in power. And while both parties are beholden to special interests, I don't think the outcome is predetermined.amadeus - Is it a bad thing? Yes. But I can certainly understand how someone becomes apolitical... Why do you say it's a bad thing? Politics in America are a joke. Democrat, republican, anything in between, it's all meaningless. None of them have the interest of the nation or its people in their heart or mind, and all of them are simply mouth pieces for their constituents that fund their campaign. If I can paraphrase Joe Rogan, it's like rooting for pro wrestling, you may feel like you have an impact, but the outcome is already determined.

“I have solved this political dilemma in a very direct way: I don’t vote. On Election Day, I stay home. I firmly believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain. Now, some people like to twist that around. They say, ‘If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain,’ but where’s the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent politicians, and they get into office and screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You voted them in. You caused the problem. You have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote — who did not even leave the house on Election Day — am in no way responsible for what these politicians have done and have every right to complain about the mess that you created.” — George Carlin

Even if they have no chance if they get 15-20 percent of the vote it would scare the shit out if the major paties.

Can someone explain their reasoning on why they would consider it to be bad?
Apathy is never good.
But sometimes you get so fed up that you want to escape the bullshit. So I do understand.

This thread is interesting. Everyone is getting along. No one is pointing fingers. Being apolitical sucks.
Being political is a complete waste of time and life. I voted once based on family indoctrination and regretted it. That was the last time, and since then I have basically watched both major parties try to tear this country down brick by brick.

Awful, isn't it?
but who will you choose in the turd sandwich vs giant douche election? I have gone to voting either 3rd party or only voting for 1 person on the ballot (on a ballot with many different positions being voted on), in a small protest to show that they have a voter out there who is willing to show up but will not vote for the bought and paid for candidates they are willing to roll out there. This voting may do no good but I come from a very political family who feels their side is always right and if you point out a problem their answer is denial or the other side is worse.
Is there anyone that cares to explain why they feel being political is a must? Thousands of political posts a day hit the OG but not one about why they would consider it to be important.
