The guy has 11 total MMA fights and there are still things that we don't know about him: sub game/sub defense, is his cardio really as good as his friends say it is?, what happens when he's on the bottom? How is his standup against a live body?
Some things we do know about him are problematic: his chin and the lack of power in his GNP (hundreds of shots landed against Kongo, Rothwell and Bigfoot and they were still hanging around.)
He beat a couple of diseased men in Noguiera and Lesnar, looked good against fringe guys who aren't in the UFC anymore, almost got KTFO by Kongo, got KTFO by 2 Saints and now he gets another title shot because Zuffa thinks he might reach the coveted Mexican-American demographic.
Is that a contender's resume, or a prospect's?
Werdum vs Cain would've been a great title contender fight
NorthFromHere - Werdum vs Cain would've been a great title contender fight
exactly. But I'd pick Werdum there and Zuffa doesn't want 2 Brazilians with broken English fighting for the HW title

cant you pick apart JDS in a similar fashion?
we have yet to see JDS on his back, his sub defense or how he reacts to a clean shot on his jaw. his biggest win is over cain, who might be nothing more than a prospect according to the OP and it wasn't very long ago that JDS was landing countless shots on carwin and nelson without being able to get a finish.
Most 'prospects' aren't former champions.

Yup, OP has some very valid points. He was impressive against Bigfoot, although that one strike to opened him up sealed the fight.
Well as ridiculous as it sounds now, Cain beat Brock Lesnar when he was still considered top 2 heavyweights in the world.

Werdum vs Cain would be great, bit i still really want to see Cain vs Mir or Cain vs Carwin.

Yes, but J2S has beaten a much higher level of opposition, was subbed early in his career and has displayed amazing TDD and an ability to pop up like the Undertaker when taken down by a BJJ killer with a heavy top game (Gonzaga).
2 Saints has beaten: Werdum, Carwin, Cain, Cro Cop, Struve, Nelson, Gonzaga and Murr. That's a lot better than Ghost of Nog, Lesnar, Bigfoot, Jake O'Brien and Denis Stoijnic
The HW division needs to be split at 235 imo.
"He beat a couple of diseased men in Noguiera and Lesnar,"
Lupo was all over this forum before Cain fought Lesnar claiming Lesnar was going to destroy Cain and he was amazed that anyone thought Cain had "anything" for Lesnar.
Now Lesnar doesn't count and Cain has never beat anyone good.

You're right, I thought Brock was going to manhandle Cain like he did in the first 2 minutes of the fight with significant punches landed and 2 takedowns. Then all of a sudden Brock was dead on his feet, throwing a half assed backhand, but that was more to do with stomach AIDS than anything Cain did.
That was not a healthy Brock Lesnar. Cain most likely beats the best of Brock--the guy from UFC 100--and I was wrong at the time. Cain looked out of shape, came in heavy and wasn't far from the Kongo (almost) clusterfuck.
there is not a hw out there who has a game without serious holes or at least major question marks
" the lack of power in his GNP (hundreds of shots landed against Kongo, Rothwell and Bigfoot and they were still hanging around.)"
That applies to a lot of guys. How many guys really get stoppages with pure GnP?
As for his cardio, he manhandled Kongo and threw 900 punches for three rounds and wasn't even breathing hard.
Other than standup, we have all the same questions in your OP about Junior.
