Is Dana White really that tough?

^ If Tito has to go through all the usual rigmarole of preparing for a fight with little reward either financially or in terms of MMA rank and status - I can see why he didn't do it..

This is stupid. I would fucking box with anybody. I don't even care if I lose. Who cares if you get hit in the face? There can be no way Tito is actually afraid his career will be jeopardized by boxing dana. This is retarded.

"he was an OK amateur with a small record and he won a plenty more than he lost. nothing to write home about, but plenty of people have worse amateur records.

he gets a lot of shit about his Boxercise employment (and the shit-talking about it is pretty funny), but he does know how to box, even if he wasn't going to become an amateur champ."

So it sounds like Dana's boxing is the equivalent of some guy who wrestled in high school and won a few matches but couldn't beat any of the guys who were actually any good.

Double tough.

"Pulsar - I'm saying that if he wasn't a threat at all, he wouldn't really have to prepare. Him backing out means BLAF is some kind of a threat.

What in the heck does BLAF mean?

Yeah fair enough.. I'm just 'm'eh' on Tito, his fights and all these shenanigans now...

"I've been liking Tito more and more but this stuff is annoying"

Yeah nice.. I WANT to back him up, but he makes it damn hard - after signing up against Rashad I have real hope, I just hope this isn't going to be the norm of his action with his new management...

theshooter -

basically, imagine there is a takedown/throwing contest, between a average-athletic varsity journeyman HS wrestler who doesn't mind getting thrown (Dana), and a fairly athletic kid who has only done takedowns in a takedown-heavy (starting standing) BJJ class, but has been doing BJJ for 4 years or so. He is not particularly skilled at takedowns and doesn't like them, though. (Tito)

that's very roughly where I think both are at.

"It sounds like this guy you are talking about purposely holds back when he shakes people's hands because he knows that if he doesn't he could hurt them."

shooter, I'm not trying to start shit, but I really think you have a misconception about what handshakes should be like. I'm not going to pretend I'm a super strong guy, but still I don't squeeze as hard as I can when I shake someones hand. It by no means represents your "grip strength"

Can you imagine everyone going around and squeezing as hard as every time they shake hands lol. It would be ridiculous. Many people just have really soft handshakes, even if they are very strong.... it is just there way of shaking hands, that simple. I've shook hands with people that barely even squeeze at all, they just sort of put there hand out and move it up and down.

Usually when somebody has a strong grip you can feel it even if the person is not trying to "show off".

I've shook hands with people and they've commented on how strong my grip is and I wasn't even trying to squeeze really hard, and I know that there are guys out there who could crush me.

A firm (not tight) handshake is a sign of respect for the man you are meeting/greeting.

This rule has not carried over to women, as we should not be shaking their hands but ordering them around:)

I've met BJ Penn in person three times and he didn't seem that tough to me. I know that people can be tougher than they look, but I'm just saying from standing next to BJ Penn in person and shaking his hand I never would have guessed that he's a tough guy. His grip wasn't that strong and he's not that big and he didn't look to be in particularly good shape. Of course looks can be deceptive and BJ could very well be a tough guy who could kick my ass.

:-)

"and BJ could very well be a tough guy who could kick my ass."

... I think "could very well be" should be changed to "is"

;)

Even if he's not that tough, he has at least some chance of beating Tito, and that's not a good thing for business. Tito was smart. No upside, and tons of downside.

When anyone goes to shake my hand, I like to just reach out and pull out their voice box. That way there can be no doubting how tough I am.

Tough guy.
