Is Eric Silva the result of poor matchmaking?

On any given night he could be the guys he lost too... But he's got some mental block preventing him from reaching the top.

I thought Matt was a winable fight for him, but he made his way into deep waters and drowned again. I still believe he can cracking the top 10 if he can figure himself out. Phone Post 3.0

f*cking goofs Phone Post

1a1 - To be fair roger huerta did beat guida. Silva should be better than he is but he is missing something. Phone Post 3.0

Yeah cardio. He gassed himself out going for that RNC. If you can survive the 1st round with him then you stand a good chance of winning.

Joe Silva sucks

Lol at building any one up if your already in the UFC. Phone Post 3.0

I don't think he's that good, but if they built him like a true prospect such as others (Phil Davis, Jones, Weidman, Gastelum, Gus) who knows what he could've done. Phone Post 3.0

orcus - "He fights Charlie Brennerman, then gets thrown to Fitch. He then beats Jason High, and gets Don Kim. Then it's Takenori Sato, to Matt Brown."

Everyone thought he was going to wreck Fitch and Kim, and most thought he'd wreck Brown. I don't think anyone at all thought he was being "thrown to the wolves" in any of those fights, and that no doubt includes the matchmakers.
I don't think most people thought he would kill any of those guys. There were plenty of people saying he was "overrated" just like they are now, and before the Brown fight.

The thing is, he gets a low level win; the UFC gets excited, and gives him a top 15 fight. There is middle ground between fighting a guy like High and fighting a guy like Fitch. How about a guy in the middle? Pyle? Pierce? Ebersole?

People act like he either has to fight a can or fight a top 5 guy. They haven't built him up properly. Phone Post 3.0

As someone who watched Silva come up through Jungle Fight, it was always kinda known that he had his limits. His wild style leaves him open and causes him to gas relatively quickly. There's a certain level he will never be able to get past. Can't just give him Takanori Sato's forever. Phone Post 3.0

How do people still not understand how fight odds work? Being a favorite has nothing to do with who is the better fighter. Casinos are not in the business of picking fights. They are in the business of making money. A line is set not because of who is more likely to win but who is more likely to get more money bet on them. It just so happens that many times they are the same but by no means all the time. Betting lines reflect public perception not fighter skill. Phone Post 3.0

You mean give him a few winnable fights then give him some names? They did that. Phone Post 3.0

Jones got Bonnar in his 2nd fight, Weidman got Lawler in his 3rd, Kelvin got Story in his 3rd, Davis got Stann in his debut.

None of the above guys got winnable fights like Silva constantly got Phone Post 3.0

Erick Silva and Sergio Pettis.

Two reasons why the UFC will handle Conor McGregor VERY gently.

They don't see Cole as a guy who can stop Conor.

They do see Conor stopping Cole and getting the big moment in Ireland.

If Conor wins (he should), the UFC will NOT step him up until it's for a title shot only.

They've no issues with Aldo stomping him.

They just want to make sure no one else does until after they've bled that rock dry of money.

You won't see them handle hot prospects like they have Silva although the Fitch fight was booked to get Fitch stomped in Brazil.

It got Fitch fired for daring to upset the hype train.

They aren't going to even allow donkey to do this to Conor until after they've maximized their earnings off of his hype. Phone Post 3.0

LOL @ this shit. Two years ago,  most hardcore fans were all over Brazilian Bieber's nuts. People thought that he was some wrestler-killer after he beat Brenneman and assumed that he'd be in title contention by now.

It's laughable that people keep talking about him like he's some wet-behind-the-ears kid. Dude will be 30 this summer, and he's older than every champ in the UFC except for Weidman and Cain.

He like 30 damn years old. If he doesn't have it at this age whats the point. The word prospect is thrown around a little to loosely when associated with this sport. He was a prospect 5 or 6 years ago now he is what he is.

Dude, age isn't the only factor. He only has 4 fights in the UFC and has been a pro since 2006. He has only taken damage recently and only has 15 fights under his belt. I don't even think he's reached his prime yet.

It's his wild style that will limit him. Phone Post 3.0

He has had 8 fights in the UFC with a 4-4 record and his biggest win was against Brenneman. Phone Post 3.0

Eric Silva was a clear favorite over Fitch.

I don't know how I feel about the thread but that photo in the OP is frakkin awesome
