Gordo really has an extremely high opinion of himself but I don’t see it. So he’s probably the best submission wrestling out there at the moment but is that really that important? I’m still waiting for him to step in the cage against a real fighter, then we can find out if he’s really a big deal.
Since he's the best in the world at his chosen discipline I'd say it's fine for him to have a good opinion of himself right? MMA isn't the be all end all of sports.

He is a huge deal, just look at the amount of instgram followers. Just playing btw.
But seriously, I think he says the controversial stuff just to get paid and his bjj along with his internet personality has worked pretty well for him.
Btw, he has a game that would work out real well in a fight. He may use an open guard game that is sporty in sport comp but he has a seperate and complete guard game for fighting sitautions also. His closed guard game dvd shows a little bit of this.
MrBlonde - He is a big deal if you are a fan of sub grappling just like Tyson Fury is a big deal if you are into boxing.
Now does Fury have to step into the cage to prove how much of a big deal he is?
To me he doesnt. He has already proven that he is the man in his chosen field of combat.
Tyson Fury is an actual fighter who gets to hit and be hit. What he does can actually be applied to an aspect of a real fight.
What Gordon and others do nowadays doesn’t even look like Jiu Jitsu anymore. Hell even Tonon made the jump even if he is fighting cans in Asia…
Is that truly your narrow view of fighting?
So by your logic if someone decides to take you down and break your limbs into pieces he didnt kick your ass in a fight?
You really didn’t comprehend what I wrote. But that’s okay.
You really think Gordo can do in MMA what he does in sub grappling? I don’t think he can.
Of course I did.
It is you that doesnt seem to comprehend what I an trying to convey to you.
You stated that Ryan has to step into the cage to prove he is a big deal.
I stated that he is already a big deal in his chosen field of combat just like Fury is in his field. I have to say that Fury gets paid a hell of a lot more though. lol
Then you stated that Fury gets hit while Ryan doesnt.
Then I stated that your view of combat is a narrow one and that taking someone down and breaking their limbs is just as bad as getting hit.
Although I do agree that sitting guard and all that stuff is pure sport but so is not being able to clinch, elbow, knee, and kick in boxing.
But it seems you have your mind made up so Ill leave it at you think Ryan isnt a big deal and I think he is.
Gordon is extremely good. Barring serious injury, he’s only going to get better given his youth. Roger is the goat, but Ryan is the current best no-gi.
He talks a lot of trash, but he backs it up. He’s also old school in that he looks for finishes (and almost always get them) and likes no time limits. How can you not respect that? A lot of big names in BJJ are obviously ducking him, but somehow they get a pass for it.
If u are the best in the world of 7 billion at anything no matter if it’s nogi grappling or juggling chainsaws I think that makes u pretty special.
& in person I wouldn’t say he’s arrogant. I’d say he’s blunt. He’s comfortable saying he’s the best at what he does. Which he is the best at. He seems almost on the spectrum. He says what others wouldn’t but I don’t think he’s intending to brag.
And a grappling match is as much a fight as a boxing match. It’s silly to say otherwise. They are either both fights or neither.
He's the best no-gi grappler of all time already, so in his world, he's entitled to that opinion.
The haters said that he was a one trick pony who could only win in bush league amateur sub grappling tournaments and that he'd never do that shit in places like ADCC or IBJJF, so he went to their events and cleaned them out, too.
Plus, unlike many/most of the generally-accepted grappling gods out there, he actually finishes matches with subs.
I'm not president of his fan club by any stretch, but the reality is, he's earned that opinion.
he probly has enough trophys to fill up a house. He won adcc his weight and open hes the best at what he does right now.Ive watched his career for a long time He has competed at a high level since he was probly 17.Grappling is a popular sport and he is the best at it.He doesnt owe it to anyone to do MMA though i would like to see it ill admit But same can be said about Jordan Burroughs and the very best wrestlers not in MMA,Id like to see them compete in MMA but to me they are still Big Deals and Legands
