So I was going to Ralph's to pick up some bread and OJ and a couple blocks from my house I notice a place on Sunsent Blvd. that says GRACIE JIU JITSU in big letters right in front
So when I get home I do a google search for "Gracie Jiu Jitsu Sunset" and it takes me to the gracie academy offical website (http://www.gracieacademy.com/locations.html), which has a list of "Gracie Certified Training Centers".
I scroll down and spot the place that I saw on my way to the store. Its called "Hollywood Soo Bahk Do" and the instructors name is Christian Naggiar. So I click on the link for the school (http://www.elitewarrior.net/hollywood-combatives) and apparently the sensei (or sifu) is actually a Soo Bahk Do black belt (which btw, means the Way of the Watermelon) and apparently a gracie jiu jitsu WHITE BELT (see pics)
so at least two questions came to mind...how the hell does gracie academy officially "certify" a white belt to teach gracie jiu jitsu techniques...and how much does it cost to become a "Gracie Certified Training Center"?

That's funny to hear that about the torrence academy. I actually would love to train with Rorian or any of his sons. I have rolled with them and taken classes.. and I loved it. Very detailed. I would train there if it were close...
Did not hear anything about no rolling though.. that is news to me.

Ive talked to a guy that trains at the Encinitas location and he says its pretty legit there

Widdomaker - Interesting.. I actually was going to stop by the Gracie Academy in Torrance at the req of a friend, but I heard its unlike any other academy, meaning they dont spar. I heard they do a number of BJJ for Street techs but no real live rolling or emphasis on sport. Basically a curriculum very different than what im used to. Now that I think about it I dont see alot of Gracie Academy guys at tourny's. Kind of off topic but wanted to get an opinion.

They definitely spar at Gracie Torrance. A couple of my friends and I trained there a few years ago when they were still at the old location. Rorion's sons Ryron and Rener are excellent teachers.

You probably dont get to spar for a bit as a beginner. This is pretty standard practice in many bjj schools these days.
I dont see nothing wrong with that, as long as you get to spar later on in the more advanced classes.
