Is Paul Daley relevant in MMA?

IMHO, Paul Daley isn't well-rounded enough to have discussion as to whether or not he will be missed by The UFC, (from a competition stand-point). I'm sure The UFC had a much harder time parting ways with the likes of Dan Henderson, Nick Diaz, or even Roger Huerta. Who has Semtex really beat? He's lost to guys like Shields and The Goat - his most notable win is Kampmann. Is that really a big deal? After his loss to Koscheck, he'll rank within the top 15-25 WW's - which is no sweat off The UFC's back.

His departure was clearly inevitable anyway. The only thing he has going for him is that he's still in his 20's. Strikeforce, DREAM or Bellator will pick him up. He won't do any significant damage in any of those Promotions. Most of all, he won't be missed in the big show.

he's relevant. not top tier, but he'll do ok at the bottom.

all I know is thank a deity he wasn't given a title shot.

no, the circus will run without one flea

barely

he's top 10 at 170 so he is very relevant.

A little bit. He can probably out-strike anyone at 170 who stands there with him and doesn't present a takedown threat. However that's forever going to be an issue with him. 170  is absolutely loaded with wrestlers at the top that will make him look foolish.

He's not big enough to go to 185, too.

Monsters Ball - Paul Daley is pretty young. He's like 5 years younger than Kos. Look where Kos was 5 years ago. Daley can improve a lot also if he keeps working. I thought he did better against Kos than Hardy did against GSP. Don't write him off yet.

While that sounds nice on paper, he has a boatload of fights and has really looked pretty similar in all of them. In MMA someone's age really doesn't mean even 1/4 as much as how many fight's they've had. If he hasn't turned a corner yet - he won't.

There are many far less "relevant" fighters in the UFC. And certainly back to back first round stoppages against the likes of Kampmann and Hazelett makes someone relevent.

No matter how good his stand up gets, he will always be playing catch up. He can KO all the strikers and BJJ guys in the division but will always get tooled by the average wrestler.

I've never wished so hard for someone to be more well rounded. Well, maybe Kevin Randleman, but it's close.

Paul would give fits to some of the UFC's best if he would just learn to defend the takedown. But he just can't seem to stop it.

That combined with the sucker punch thing make him pretty much completely irrelevant in the sport at this point. He certainly had potential though.

He's lucky to be considered in the top 20-25.  Nothing to miss there.

lol, he was 1 win away from fighting GSP for the title. Of course he's relevant. If Paul's ground game is so bad then why couldn't Koscheck do anything to him on the ground when he got it there?

He just has to become an mma fighter.

Not at all, he'd not take the belt away from the 170 KOTC fighters.

I say Strikeforce picks him up before the end of the year.

Not anymore...

Can't the UFC hold that up?

Even his biggest strengths aren't worthy of praise
