Gene Simmons did an interview and said it was dead.

Sorry if this was posted already. ..I just read it.
It's a cool read but Gene is always playing an angle. And that his son is conducting it makes it seem contrived at best. That said no its not dead. But over saturation with every kind of music, musicians branching out between them all and there just being less talented people writing rock songs makes it seem that way.
No its just resting it's eye's
Rock ain't dead, I just went to Warped Tour and headbanged my fucking brains out for 10 hours
Nickelback is the equivalent of KISS nowadays, it's just we ain't falling for it anymore
"file-sharing and downloading" by fans who believe they "were entitled to have something for free" -- "rock is finally dead."
They said the same shit about home recording in the 70's and 80's.
No fuckface, the music industry is killing music. It's you greedy fucks.

It's not dead. You just need to know where to find it. You won't hear it on the radio.
SnapLocally -I grew up listening to late 70s and 80s r&r. I loved the music back then...I still love it today. I hear some of the shit out there today and I want to vomit. Very few "artists" are real. Everything is done with computers....it use to be 4 or 5 people on stage with their instruments and ability to entertain. Fuck I hate todays music scene.

Reminds me of this club I hated going to in my 20s. All they played was house/techno and I couldn't figure out why the hell people were there!?
Then....I did X for the first time...and I got it lol..
But it did take drugs to get the music.

End of Thread. Blue please.........thank you
I blame video games and technology in general. The average kid isn't sitting in his room playing an instrument all day or spending every afternoon in someone's garage playing songs.

The average kid isn't sitting in his room playing an instrument all day or spending every afternoon in someone's garage playing songs.Yeah man. I remember goin to friends houses to do nothing more than listen to the newest Crüe album. Music was a huge part of my life as a younger man....now it seems to be just filler for fucked up teens

the hell would he know, kiss sucked.
rock isnt dead... listened to grand funk railroad on the way home from work today.
Only main stream rock and roll is dead, but if that's where your looking for it, your fucked anyway.
RnR has been reinvented many times.
KIds in the 60's emulated their idols and started doing garage rock. Drugs influenced music in the form of psychedelic rock, and sounds progressively became heavier and at times political. Metal came with jazz influence and power chords, punk was influenced by garage rock and the dismay of polished stadium rock bands. Hard core punk followed the first wave, as well as several other subgenres, including new wave, no wave and goth. Metal became main stream and in it's wake grunge broke through. Punk made a resurgence in the 90's and styles of metal, punk and hiphop cross pollinated into crap known as mallcore...
Bottom line, the basic formula of guitar/s, bass, drums and lead singer is as popular now as it's ever been. No one told Gene Simmons he had to stay in glam mode with the New York Dolls and Ziggy Stardust. He went on to cheese metal mediocrity, but not before cutting a disco single. He rode several different trends in his career, yet he doesn't recognize change is necessary for both the industry and the fans of music? Don't blame mp3s and file sharing for ruining anything. If you have what the people want, they'll invest in you.

As long as Jon Spencer is still making music and touring, fuck no.
If you are a rock fan and you've never gone to a show of his, you are worse off for it. Best performer in the biz.
Kitana - It's not dead. You just need to know where to find it. You won't hear it on the radio.Exactly. The way media is accessed has changed too much recently for popular outlets to keep pace. Every listen is too precious so they just continuously pander to the lowest common denominator.

Gene Simmons only speaks to what he can profit from, if he can't profit from it, it is dead according to him.
