Is the $999 MacBook Air worth the money?

I bought a MacBook Pro in 1999 and it's pretty much non-functional due to all the porn I have downloaded. I've been surviving with an Ipad for my daily internet use for the last couple of years, but I'm thinking of getting that $999 MacBook Air. Is it worth the money? I'm just trying to do basic non-porn browsing, nothing too fancy.

Fuck no that keyboard is awful & I just find it annoying as hell to use

What about the keyboard is awful? I feel any keyboard takes time to get used to. Is the keyboard different from MacBook Pro keys?

The keyboard on the new Macbook air is great.

Yes, but you can find them on discount.

Apple produced a trainwreck of a keyboard for 2 years that would stop working if there was a spec of dust under a key.  You have to hit them with canned air hourly.

get a macbook pro, youll be glad you did

For what you get, it’s not a bad price but I would personally opt for spending $300 more and get the higher spec model. It’s quad core, so if you plan on multi tasking or running more than a few tabs in chrome it’s gonna be worth it. Not to mention double the HD space.

Looks like they fixed/redesigned the shitty keyboard finally. i3 with 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, minimum specs, but fine for general use/web surfing. Not really adequate for any graphics or video related production, maybe for fucking around, but not for a serious "work" computer.

1000 is kind of a lot, but it's a mac so that's "cheap" in new macbook standards. Should be an i5 for that price. Plus I don't think I'd trust a new mac without the 3 year warranty so tack 300 onto the price.

No

With the redesigns, at least now in 2 years you'll be able to buy a used macbook pro for a decent price that isn't garbage. No shit keyboard or having to replace the whole screen cause the shitty built in cable goes bad. Until then I'll stick with my 2015 retina.

Chances are though a bunch of new fuckups with start surfacing with the new models too.

Personally I save the extra 3-400 bucks and get a pro.

yes

I'm on a 2015 one right now and it has never missed a fucking beat...EVER

If you just need it for browsing on the net just get a Chromebook instead.

I used to buy PC, every 3 years!! DEAD, my 2011 macbook pro, still going strong!!

I've got a 1999 iBook that still boots up. Can no longer get on the net with it since all its software is outdated but the thing still boots up and functions if I stay in its own little environment. Got a 2004 iMac that also still boots up and functions. My 2011 Macbook Pro's screen died a few months ago (the 15-inch models of the MB pro pre-2015 are notorious for having the graphics card give out). I got a used 2011 13-inch model of the MB pro to replace it because those years' 13-inchers doen't have the same problem, and I still need to run some legacy software. Basically all the Macs that I've bought and kept are still working, just obsolete because of software and weak processors and speed for today's environment. Heck, I bet the Mac IIsi I had in the mid 90s would still work if I hadn't thrown it out after getting that '99 iBook.

Completely down to preference and need, my wife has one and uses it for graphic design bits basic web browsing etc and she loves it. I have an iMac and it’s the wrong machine for me, can play new games but none of my old games work and I don’t use any of the features that make it a good machine. I’d have been better off spending the money on a gaming pc.

long story short - it will be great for what you want it to do but could do the same for less.

Edit wife actually has MacBook Pro not air - but comments still the same

This. Nothing safer than a chromebook if you're doing any sort of financial transactions online.

^you could probably just convert some of them to linux.

$1300 seems alot to do some 'basic non-porn browsing'

I checked the new iPad+keyboard setup they are selling for $799 and I thought that the keys were horrible.

The MacBook Air has the same keys as MacBook Pro, right?
