Nunes cleared the division. No contenders. Only Holly could give her issues, but she’s coming off losses.
The talent poll is pretty thin without Rousey, Tate and now McMann and Schevchenko and Alexis Davis, who dropped to 125 lbs.
No upcoming prospects / new talent.
And this used to be the best women’s division.
Meanwhile, strawweight is getting better and better and more puzzling thanks to tougher competition: Suarez (wrestling), Dern (BJJ), Joanna (muay thai), Gadelha, Andrade, Karolina, Rose (very well rounded) etc.
115 class is the only one that matters.there are some interesting fights in the other divisions but not enough depth.
Sounds harsh but when someone at the level of Pennington is your number 1 contender you know you got a talent problem in your division.
i m surprised we havent seen holm vs nunes
Ketlen Viera just beat McMann and Zingano. She should be next.
What was the UFC thinking adding a women's Flyweight division? I get that there is a market for it albeit a niche of a niche but unless Dern becomes some big star I don't see anybody getting excited for it. #2 v #3 are fighting this weekend and it's Eubanks v Murphy. The other big matchups are
Maia v Carmouche and Hornchak v Roxanne. To make things worse their champ is a girl who is 4-2 that nobody knows and who has gone AWOL since she won the title. That's why the TUF house is terrible unless you get the best girls in their. No Maia, Chookagian, Porto, Nied?wied? (needs to be signed ASAP) - she could possibly be a star.
Shevchenko needs to be the champ asap and fighting Maia, which is a good fight. Outside of that, I don't see a lot of depth and it takes away fights from SW and BW. There's so many cards nowadays, I guess having 1 women's Fly fight on every other card isn't gonna really bother anybody but I would much rather see the WW division get split to '65 and '75 the amount of talent at 155 and 170 is ridiculous. Word is the only reason the UFC doesn't want to end it is bc they believe WW has been their prime division for the better part of the last decade with Miletich, Hughes, GSP, Penn, Lawler, etc..

Not only should she be next, it's a shame the UFC has given her such little push that hardcores don't even realize she should be next. Girl is a beast and could possibly be a dominant champion.
125 looks promising Joanna NoChampion Valentina Bullet etc could turn out some nice fight's.
The only point of UFC WMMA at this point is to have marketable women as champions. Simply to convert additional demographics into revenue. It has little to do with actual WMMA fights.
UFC clearly has no interest in WMMA anymore. If they did, Shevchenko would have been a champion already and there would be SOME kind of foundation for the next 12 months.
It's hard to make Shevchenko champ when the title holder has had a medical issue and not been able to compete.

Valentina will murder Joanna.
at least it’s in better shape than the women’s 145 division
Sell them all to Invicta, pretend it never happened.
I want to see women fight at Heavyweight
I think they should just go back to having one female division.

She’s not ready.
Sounds like a typical number 1 contender at w135 or w145.
Women’s combat sports has always and will always be thin no matter the weight class… It doesn’t matter if you’re talking MMA, boxing, or any other combat sport. There will always be good fighters in any given weight class, but very rarely will any women’s weight class have real depth.
It’s just the way it is.

Man... true, except for Holly.
