This is not a knock on MMA.TV or anything. All of MMA media is full of MMA news but very little in terms of content concerning the UFC card that is airing in two days. There is even a belt on the line. I am around pretty often and honestly can't tell you who is fighting outside of Benevidez, that little mouse guy, Joe Lauzon, Jesus MacDonald and ass chin.
I guess times are changing. 2008, 2009 saw 20 total UFC events respectively. This year alone we had 33 events.
I can't follow each card as religiously as I used to, there are just too many! I guess the same statement is true for the media.
I am not saying it is worse, it's just that times are changing and so is the hardcore MMA fan's experience, for me anyways.
rockafella - Do any sports fans catch every game? If you have to miss a card so be it.
Hardcore fans of a specific team, especially a football team, almost never miss a game, and that includes tailgating for home games. In this day and age you don't really have to miss anything. Just DVR it if you can't watch it live...watch the prelims on your phone.
I think this is a great card. With the potential to have a lot a great fights. And it's free! I for one do not long for the days of waiting two or three months for a UFC. The more fights the more shows the more weight classes the more opportunities for fighters. And just because two fighters are not super stars does not mean they can't put on a great fight. Big names don't always mean great fights. Hungry fighters make better fights more often then big name super stars.
The MMA fan experience to me doesnt compare to any other sport. Go to a show live to understand. Boxing could come close, but boxing is a mess. In boxing I only follow specific fighters. I will have to start doing the same with MMA. It will become harder to buy a PPV card a few yeard from now when I only know less than a handfull of fighters on a main card. I "invest myself emotionally" in fighters when I follow their careers.
The MMA experience is changing is all. It's my rant thread of the month, I am in my mentration cycle.
And yes as a hard core fan I was following almost every fighter on the roster (155 to heavy at the time) and used to be able to tell you about each fighters last fight from memory (and I was a drunk!).

This is interesting to me. I don't get emotionally invested in any fighter and don't understand it. If I know the guy and he is a good guy then I cheer for that guy. Other then that I just hope for a good fight.

Being emotionaly invested in a fighter increases my viewing experience. In my case I am not talking about having to go through a mourning process after a loss or anything. I am talking about nut hugging for a certain fighter.
For example: I look forward to Bellator cards because the fights are exciting and fun to watch. I enjoy them and like to watch certain fighters because they are good. Thats about all there is to it. If I miss a card or a fight I dont think about it twice and font feel like I missed out. Its like MMA filler to me.
However...
If GSP, Hunt, Fedor, Lauzon, Liddell, Diaz (and many more) fight, I WILL NOT MISS THE FIGHT! I can tell you from memory their stats, break down their styles, their strengths and weaknesses, their history, their likes, their eye color, their favorite foods, the smell of their hair, their deodorant brand ect... During their fights I will be on the edge of my seat (or standing on it), grabbing my hair, verbally reacting to what is happening, sometimes shadow boxing to edge my fighter on without realizing it (I dont even trane standup yet). I make constipation faces and invent sounds using only vowels. I am that annoying guy at the sports bar (used to be anyway, I dont go to those places anymore).
I get an actual adrenaline rush watching them fight because of emotional attachment. I only get that through MMA. It's a helluva drug and I fucking love it!
So many good fights on the card and prelims. Jorgensen, Fun Size, Healy, Green, Alp, Darren, Barboza, Court, LaFlare, Mayday/Faber, Mendes, Lauzon, JB/MM Fly title.

Chuck understands me :)
I don't even know what to say to that. I guess I can just enjoy a good fight no matter who is fighting. I didn't care who won between Hunt or Silva but enjoyed the hell out of it. Same thing this weekend. No matter who wins as long as the fights a fun I don't care.
