Is UFC 142 PPV worthy?

I know it's geared toward the Brazilian fan base but I honestly think this will be one of the least bought UFCs in years.

Champ Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes (for featherweight title)
Vitor Belfort vs. Anthony Johnson
Sam Stout vs. Thiago Tavares
Edson Barboza vs. Terry Etim
Fabio Maldonado vs. Stanislav Nedkov
Mike Pyle vs. Paulo Thiago*
Mike Massenzio vs. Rousimar Palhares
Siyar Bahadurzada vs. Erick Silva
Felipe Arantes vs. Antonio "Pato" Carvalho*
Ednaldo Oliveira vs. TBA*

I really think Zuffa needs to add one significant big name fight just to pull ok PPV numbers.

Does anyone else feel a little cheated about this card? Especially since this card kicks off the new year.

Ill be buying it.  Its a solid card.  I think Vitor vs. Johnson is going to be INSANE

Cards like these, the "overrated" ones, usually produce the most exciting fights.

Oliveira vs. Broughton.

Looks like a fun card to me, some awesome fights on there.

Hey - I'm buying for sure. I agree there will be some good fights. I just don't see too many casual fans buying this one.

I could understand if this was a card in the lull of summer or something but not to kick off the new year. Just lacking a bit of excitement IMO.

Honestly, who gives a fuck how many PPVs it sells? Its a solid card with some damn good fights. This is the beginning of a 4 week stretch of UFC events. The two after this are free and then Superbowl weekend is GSP/Diaz. And you feel "cheated" some how? Phone Post

I love these cards. Bunch of awesome fighters who haven't broken into title contention. They all have a lot to prove. That usually makes for awesome fights.

Regardless of who is on a card i will always buy it, big names dont always equal good fights. And besides, this card has a lot of good match ups and features some of my favourite fighters. Phone Post

Yeah. It's getting annoying listening to non-industry folks talk about PPV buys. If you like the card buy it. If you don't, then don't bother. Focus on the fights.

And the thread seems to be suggesting that the card will tank because it doesn't feature more American based fighters. Simply isn't true. Brazil can carry a card by itself, whether we watch or not. Canada is full of MMA fanatics. They will watch whether they see a big American name or not. Japan is the same. Why? Because they spend less time trying to pretend to understand the business end and more time acting like spectators. If you only buy cards with American names, you're going to miss out on a whole lot of MMA in the next 2-5 years. Enough to have no idea what's going on.

Just enjoy the sport.

The card features five top fighters whose fights are can't miss:

Jose Aldo

Vitor Belfort

Anthony Johnson

Edson Barboza

Rousimar Palhares

Plus, you get Paulo Thiago, Sam Stout, and Terry Etim. Solid card to say the least.

Aldo, Belfort, Stout, Pyle are FOTN fighters. This is a solid card. Plus, I would buy just to see what Paul Harris does! Phone Post

I find it quite strange people say Aldo fights don't deliver because he had one boring fight where his opponent tried to press him against the cage the entire fight.

Anyone who thought Hominick vs Aldo was boring is not much of a fan. That was one of the best fights this year.

That being said this card is going to do awful on ppv but I'm sure the Ufc expects that. At this point they'll probably make more money from globo airing it.

Still I'll order it because I'm an Aldo fan and Vitor/Rumble, Palhares, Barboza, and Maldonado are on it.

It looks like a good card, but I sadly think Mendes will beat Aldo in an easy decision and I really don't want to see that since Aldo is the better and more entertaining "fighter." Then Vitor-Johnson is interesting but could be a washout for Vitor. Stout-Tavares is nice but not really relevant.

If I order it'll probably be because I don't want to miss Barboza vs. Etim which could be an early 2012 FOTY candidate.

Thats a great card! Paul Harris, Vitor, Aldo are enough for me to buy it.

Stop complaining till the card has actualy been and then judge it edson vs ettim I can't wait for that 1 either Phone Post

Seems like a good card but is lacking a big fight to make it worth the PPV to the casual fans.  If UFC wants Aldo to be able to headline with big numbers he has to start finishing people like he used to.

Etim vs barboza will be a fucking war! Phone Post
