Chris Power -EpicConfessions - What is wrong with fighters dominating their own weight class for years?
This - MMA fans are painfully impatient, the moment somebody wins 2 fights in a row in their division they should STEP UP LIKE A MAN and go fight heavier guys.
Does nobody enjoy sustained dominance? I love watching what guys like GSP and Anderson have been able to do in their respective weight classes - it puts the abilities of the division as a whole into perspective and provides for much more specific historical clarity.
I dunno, I'm also big on the historical relevance side of this though. I like the idea of being able to tell my kids I watched a guy like Anderson make like 10,11,12, however many title defenses he's made. That's cool shit to me.
There's nothing wrong with dominating your weight class as long as there are viable contenders. The win streaks are nice but in my opinion they lose significance if the fighter isn't really being challenged each fight. I think it's more impressive to go up a weight class, if there are more challenging fights there, and maybe lose a fight here or there than to run off an insane win streak in a weaker division where you really don't have anyone to challenge you.
At the rate Jones is running through contenders combined with his desire to move up to HW I have no problem with him moving up if it's the right time. If he runs out of contenders and he still wants to challenge himself I say let him move up...
