Isolationism = fail

I understand the anti globalist sentiment not just in the USA but in the world. I get countries trying to manage the virus and once under control to lock people in and keep people out. This is wrong in my mind, movement needs to occur, business needs to occur and so does tourism. I have been reading about places that want a full lockdown in and out till there is a vaccine. To me this sounds like the world just deciding to follow the north Korea model. I was first in the play It safe camp, and still am to some extent but I am coming to terms with the idea of acceptable risk and and some point we need to open things up. Tell me how I am wrong please.

I agree. Its been a month and I'm losing it. I was all about quarantine but things are falling apart. Don't worry ppl I will follow the governors mandate but I wish things would open.

nothing wrong with secure borders and taking manufacturing out of china and relocating it elsewhere globally, or bringing some of it home

it is simply not possible to wait any longer or much longer (past May).  Half or more small businesses will die. There will be permanent mass unemployment.  No consumer spending.  No tax revenue.  That will affect social services and govt workers.

It would be a total global, global economic collapse.

its not an option

time to get back to work

Yeah I mean it's impossible to bring all manufacturing to USA but need to have a better balance of strategic manufacturing and services rather than purely services with a little bit of high end manufacturing.

You have to realize how much risk is in the current economic mix in the USA.

Need to make sure you have enough strategic manufacturing resources meaning facilities, machinery, and raw materials. Can't have everything overseas.

The sad part is Canada will likely respond to USA doing this by strengthening their trade relationship with China and becoming even more vulnerable because we have idiots running our country.

I don't think its a personal issue, people complaning their going stir crazy have to man up. It's about entire economies collasping which probably causes much more pain, suffering and death than corona.

We need a plan to get domestic business back up but also international business and travel. I countries like Spain or even America about people coming in with coronavirus at this point. Got 500k cases and worried 2 guys on a plane might bring it in? There needs to be measures taken and operations but there has to be a balance. I am not comparing it to cars but there is an assumed risk getting in one. There has to be a level of operation and assumed risks, we can't turn the clock back 1000 years and all be farmers.

since someone mentioned canada, we need to be relentlessly emailing and calling our MPs and MPPs and demanding business be open.  Like, every day.

Sadly things like cruises, plane travel, resorts, casinos may have to be the last to open. Their the most prone to spread infection [gyms to].

May be the first time, but I strongly agree with Josh.

These things with proper measures are no more dangerous mall or movie theater or ant form of mass transit. Older and at risk population might need to self isolate but it's a lot cheaper to support that segment of the population then try to support everyone. People that want to cruise or go to a casino can go knowing there is an assumed risk to that choice. There needs to be heard immunity and Sweden is close to achieving this. Close the USA to itself and countries closing to other closing solves nothing. Once hospital are not overwhelmed or not at risk we got to have life. Frat being in North Korea sucks

For things to get back moving we need adequate testing.  Hk and SK are getting it done.  The fact that the USA is lagging so badly in this regard is a national failure .

HK and Singapore still won't allow foreigners in, he'll I live now in Thailand and we had 19 cases today and arrived down. Now I am totally open to changing my opinion but I don't understand why more testing needs to be done unless you intended to test everyone everyday. I might be negative today but pick it tomorrow correct? Some people never will show symptoms so unless you test them weekly what does that accomplish? Again I might be really wrong on this if so please tell me why so I can be informed.

You do need tons of testing. And basically what they do is send you an alert if youve been around someone who they know has it .  Then you go for a test and go into quarantine if you gett bad news.

Sweden has cases on the rise and a higher number of deaths than neighboring countres, whose numbers are declining.

We do need to open up. Internally.

And until we have our own situation under control and back to normal, we should stay closed off to outsiders.

Once we have our internal situation with the virus under control, then we start opening the borders slowly in measured steps. But not a moment before.

It'll depend on the final outcome, but as of now it could be argued that the difference between Sweden and the neighboring countries isn't great enough to have justified shutting down their economies.
