Try not to under eat. Your goal of 1850 net calories sounds safe but consistently coming way under it can slow down your metabolism and make losing/maintaining harder in the long run. I've run into this problem in the past. You'll see great results at first that will skew your perception and think it's ok.
Your body needs so many calories to operate itself, even at rest. That's your Basal Metabolic Rate. With your stats, that number for you is calculated to be 2052. You shouldn't eat less than that number each day. Once you factor in your Daily Energy Expenditure (~1.2x), your average daily calorie burn is ~2462. Eating 2462 should maintain your weight, anything under will result in weight loss.
If you burn 300 calories through exercise, eat 300 more calories that day. Your calorie goal already has the deficit for weight loss factored in and not eating back those calories will cause you to fall below your net calorie goal.

Thank you very, very much! This makes sense...
I never thought about that...I've thought less is better... But thank you!!! Will take care of that!
Here we go again... I tried to get as close as possible to my net calorie goal.
Worked fine...
Goal: 1807 What I ate: 1798 Surprisingly my details were pretty good. My goal at the moment is about: 50% carbs - 20% protein - 30% fat (will change that soon I guess) I´ve reached: 53% carbs - 17% protein - 30% fat
Simple breakfast: Whole grain bread without butter + 100g turkey and one tomatoe. Black coffee with a shot low fat milk.
Snack: Banana and a Cappucino (no sugar or sweetener)
Dinner: Pasta with spinach leaves, peppers and one garlic sausage.
Before going to bed one tea with a small spoon of honey.
As the weather is getting better, I´m thinking about running a few times the week.
garythekid - What class of bp med did the doc give you, if you don't mind me askin? I'm even younger than you, but gettin up there in numbers unfortunately. Fuckin genetics :( and I do literally all I can otherwise.
Have you noticed any side effects or even notice taking them at all?
I think I´ve had high blood pressure for a really long time...I noticed my heartbeat when in bed or relaxing. But I always thought that´s normal...
So, when I took the meds the first time I really noticed how soft everything went inside...sounds funny, but I really felt getting relaxed, because for the first time in a long time, my blood pressure was constantly on a normal level. =)
For the first time I did not feel my heartbeat just sitting anywhere around...
I never read the description of side effects the first week...because I might think too much about it. But honestly...I do not think I´ve had any side effects yet.
The doc gave me Felodipine, what is a calcium channel blocker.
It´s in the lowest dose 2.5...here´s what I´ve found about it in the interwebs:
Felodipine is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels.
Felodipine is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure).
This drug prevents calcium from entering the smooth muscle cells of the heart and arteries. When calcium enters these cells, it causes a stronger and harder contraction, so by decreasing the calcium, the hearts' contraction is not as forceful. Calcium channel blockers relax and open up narrowed blood vessels, reduce heart rate and lower blood pressure.
My old man takes a calcium channel blocker. I have a "strong heartbeat" too and know what you mean about feeling it when laying quietly. What sucks is that I run constantly, eat healthy, don't smoke or drink anything including caffeine and soda. It's straight up genetic and pisses me off. I've had echo cardiograms of my heart done since I had insurance, and the doc told me I have "the heart of an athlete". I'm in the best shape of my life but this is somewhat out of my control I'm starting to think.
I've been trying for a fire dept for a long time now and will soon have a medical. I've learned recently that they can clear you on certain meds. Problem is I'm not certain which ones. I am certain no beta blockers though. I wouldn't wanna take one of those anyway.
Anyway, thanks for responding. I think about this a lot. My doc told me it's up to me, as my numbers at home are really not bad and it's really only my systolic. I just wanna make sure I don't fuck up my chances at my dream career.
I was wondering about my health check...the blood tests were pretty good! Sure I need to lose weight, but the stats were ok. I do not smoke, too...and just drink some wine once in a month. But I guess sometimes you can´t control everything of your body.
Would it be a problem for the fire dept if you take calcium channel blockers?
Weekend is over and here´s my food diary...not the healthiest days. I hate weekends! As the last few were pretty busy we´ve decided to hit the couch and chill.
Saturday: 1949kcal out of 1807... A little bit over the goal, but I can subtract 237kcal from walking. I was never walking before, so don´t laugh guys...just 2.5km (1.5 miles)... So I have ended with 95kcal less than I may take.
Sunday: 1414kcal out of 1807...but very unhealthy...chicken BBQ...fried shit...
And right now...writing this post, I am sitting at Starbucks with a black coffee and two hot milfs are sitting right next to me having a bagel with grilled bacon. Daaaaamn! :D And no...no pics...
@garythekid No...no problems yet! But it´s in a real low dose...so I guess it´s no big deal. Fine experience so far...feeling good! I was doing MMA training last week (first time with meds)...and I do not feel like it´s having any effect on it.
The doc told me it´s good to do exercises with the meds...just no power lifting and stuff. Like really heavy weights and pushing to the limit. Extreme stuff like killer bench pressing...
Leigh - Fried chicken BBQ (I thought BBQ was grilled?) isn't necessarily unhealthy. You'll have extra calories from the oil if you fry but that doesn't inherently mean it's bad for you. I eat grilled steaks and burgers etc when cutting weight. Really takes the edge off
I´m not that good into that whole eat clean theory...I´m right at the beginning. I have had two kind of chicken...one grilled (BBQ) and some chicken pops (fried). I think the breading of the chicken pops made my calories jump high.
Blunderhooks - Good job keeping the calories down but what's the deal with garlic sausages?!
Sausages give you fuck all in the way of protein grams for your calorie buck.
Thanks man...those garlic sausages...damn, I love them. But I don´t know why their calories are that high.
It´s some special kind of, called Sucuk (turkish style)... But one little sausage with 84grams kicks in with 291kcal! One little shitty sausage!!! I could eat 10 of them right now!
