They have figured out how to hack them to mine crypto. Crypto is the reason no one can find graphic cards. Well now people don't need to find a graphics card or build a pc. They just have to buy a playstation 5 and they are good to go. there will be even more bots and people to compete with when they do their very limited releases.
Don't think it's going to be that great at it though? I mean sure, it's 'next gen' but compared to high end gpus, it's slow.
There's gpus out there triple the price of the entire console.

I've watched a couple videos on it and they seem to think it is plenty powerful for the $500 price tag. They even had numbers and stats for how much eth it was mining. I have no clue how good those numbers are but the people in the videos who know more about computers than me seemed to think it was good.

I was so fucking close during that and I'm pissed. I was able to get one in my cart but didn't have my address/payment info put in beforehand, so i wasn't able to check out soon enough and lost it. BS.

Ive tried to help my nephew get one and I can't get one for him to save my life. He went out and did landscaping in his neighborhood to make the money for it but still hasn't been able to get one. I really want to help him find one since he went out and actually put in the work for it instead of just asking his parents to buy it. He even said he didn't want it for Christmas and wanted to make the money himself.

At the 3pm drop I got in the cart but it was gone before I submitted the order. But it remained in the cart so I was able to grab it at the 3:10pm drop

Games companies have been forced to coordinate directly with card manufacturers to even build test kits for compatability testing. Normally new generation of cards come out and we get dozens that are just bought online. Some go in demo machines, some go in test machines, other goes into vip's rigs.
I think we got 3 3080's sent to us directly by whichever manufacturer we talked into it, and there was a fight over which dept they got sent to.

The PS5/XBX chips are AMD. They're made from the same one factory as their new RX 6000 GPUs.
So under ideal circumstances, there would have been almost enough on the supply side.
Then 2020 and another mining craze happened, and fucked all that optimism up.
It isn't like the hardware guys are losing money over this, so they'll do what corporations do, say they give a fuck about the little guy, while not giving many shits because the low level consumers don't have a viable choice elsewhere.
