They no longer have any interest in signing the best in the world. The UFC is now strictly about the entertainment factor. That is the number one driving force behind setting up a solid contract and getting promotion behind you with this company.
Gegard mousasi could easily be the champion of that division. Today is a sad day for MMA. I cannot believe the UFC would let such a highly touted contender leave for a competitor that is actually picking up steam. Bellator is getting better and better by the month at a very high rate. I used to laugh at Bellator, but now I honestly can see them surpassing the UFC.

I love Mousasi he's a fucking beast but he doesn't have the drawing power to justify the contract he wants. That's just the fight game, if you are popular and draw in people to watch, you get paid. Like it or not that's the way it is.
And bellator aren't much better, they put the likes of Kimbo, Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz as the main event over their top young talent. They are just as money orientated but they can afford to pay the couple of UFC defectors like Mousasi because they don't have many big stars and Viacom have a shit tonne of money. If they had as much talent as the UFC they wouldn't be able to pay.

But I am emotional but Idgaf..... the UFC has crazy money. That doesn't mean they necessarily have to pay out crazy money on this contract. What they do is pay crazy money on attorneys to be top-level negotiators and convince this Dutch motherfucker to sign the deal and stay with them.

They also took two big fights away from him because him having the belt did not suit their agenda. Nothing to do with money, all to do with protection of the hype jobs. The UFC are known for it, get one guy who they hype and protect, sign average talent, hype falsely and feed them to the main hype job.

To be honest the only real loss the UFC has suffered is Rory. Mousasi is a war horse but he's not gonna be champ, too many miles on him at this point. Bader, Davis, Mitrione & Larkin should all be competing for the top org, but if the money is better for guys like them over at Bellator, good for them. The UFC is remaining comfortably the top org, while Bellator is becoming stronger and stronger with some solid signings. It's win win for the fans
