J Jones = Good Example of Needed Weight Cut Fine$$

I don't see this being talked about much and I am a bit confused as to why. Jon Jones looked like he was in a completely different weight class than Shogun. We're not talking Tito/Chuck weight cuts, that shit was insane.

Jones may have all the talent in the world but the fight I saw looked like a freakshow match up. A complete mismatch and it was based on size.

Jones will be untested until he fights in his real weight class, heavyweight. What are they saying he weighs in at fight time? 225-235? That's fucking crazy.

They should keep weigh-ins the same as they always have. But there should be a separate weigh-in the day of the fights and you should get fined for every pound over a certain limit (for instance 205 should be every pound over 210.)

He's too small for heavyweight right now, he needs to fill his frame in more. I agree, that he is also too big for LHW. He's got a weird build. By the time he is like 28 or 29 years old, he'll definitely be at HW.

that is the UFC way.

esp. the guys with wrestling backgrounds.

same day weigh ins will ensure jon jones is a HW and not at LHW.

this weight cutting bullshit favors wrestlers

id love same day weigh ins

its a bit of a piss take how big he is compared to everyone else at 205. his height and reach are bigger than most heavyweights. but he makes the weight so there is nothing you can do.

waaaaaa a guy from pride lost

thank god someone had the balls to tackle this topic, which has never been discussed before

You can't think of anybody to beat him so this is your solution?

lol

Yeah that would really help the fighters long term health.

screw that... if they don;t like it they can get bigger and cut more weight or drop a weight class. tough shit

whatever, I hate all this weightcut complaining.

the weight-classes are there to regulate who can fight at what class. Even with cutting, it does it's job. You can only be a certain size and make it down to a certain weight. some guys may be able to cut more weight than others, but they are still bound to the stipulation that they must make 205, 170.. ect.

If fighter start missing weight, then you can bitch about them.

It's not Jones fault that shogun came in pretty outta shape and could probably be a 185er.

If you're a lightheavy that can move down to middle. Then DO IT. Be the big guy there.

Same with all the heavy's like CroCop and guys who hover around 225-230. Move down, stop dealing with the carwins, brock, and mirs. Move down.

The weigh-ins should effect everyone, not just Jones. Jones is just a perfect example of how wacked out the system is and how the rules have been manipulated.

If I pay to see a Light Heavyweight title fight I want to see two Light Heavyweights fight. You cannot tell me that Jon Jones weighed anything close to the LHW limit last night.

As for the fighter's health, the method I brought up would do nothing to their health. Give them a five pound leniency on weight and every pound over take a percentage off their purse. I can tell you right now after a few cards of this happening you will see A LOT of fighters deciding they want to fight at their real weights.

You would definitely get to see who the real greats are at their weight classes. And especially no more of this shit with some guy coming in 30 pounds over his weight and suddenly being talked about in the P4P Rankings (which does not mean SHIT in MMA because of the cheating at weight classes.)

Jones only cut from 217 for this fight.  His fight with Bader wasn't all that long ago, so he didn't get out of shape between fights.  Shogun probably had a bigger weight cut.

Please stop with the excuses.

i'm for same day weigh ins

He has never had weight cut problems like alot of guys out there (Semtex, johnson, etc.) so until he does this thread is pretty irrelevant.

Agreed, once he fights at HW then he'd be matched up with guys his size like Lesnar, Carwin, ect.....

Jon Jones also has teeny toothpick legs...

Max

Did you see all the cheaters in the NCAA Division I Championships!?!

Weigh em in the morning of the fight.  Then, to make sure that they haven't over hydrated and gained more than is reasonable, weigh em in right before their walkout intros.  Then, after Buffer gets done pirouetting and screaming, weigh em in again so that there is no shenanigans.  Add some time in between rounds so that they can be weighed in then too.  After the fight, weigh them in again when they piss test.

In order to ensure that there is little to no weight difference, make them BOTH responsible for the weight differential.  If at any time of the above weigh ins, the differential between the fighters is greater than a lb, fine them both a $1,000 for every ounce above a lb the differential is.

Or, leave it the way that combat sports have it now.
