According to Graciemag.com, Jacare will replace Roger Gracie to face Robert Drysdale in the ADCC super fight. I'm glad that Jacare is back in ADCC. It should be an entertaining match.

I don't ever remember that happening. I know Jacare sub'd him in ADCC by Kimura and pretty much made him look like a beginner which says alot. I don' think that Drysdale realizes that he is in over his head.
Marcelo is competing in weight and wants to win the absolute. I like this superfight.

I have to agree, where is the vid on this one? I don't remember Marcelo rnc ing Jacare. I do remember Jacare finishing Marcelo with a Kimura pretty quick though, I think in 2007 and like Baleia says, he didn't even compete last year.
you dont remember it because it never happened. marcelo has 1 win against jacare in the gi and on points. jacare has tapped marcelo x2. one triangle as a brown in the gi and with a kimura in adcc.
and IMO Jacare will whomp drysdale.

Very interesting match. Though I think Lister should probably have been chosen. He was the prior superfight champion before having to pull out so has not "Lost" the title.

With Roger Gracie pulling out of the Superfight due to injury a host of top names are clamoring to take his spot. Two such top fighters contacted Kid Peligro today: Dean Lister and Ronaldo "Jacare"

I really, REALLY would love the honor of replacing him after all I was also injured in 2007 as defending superfight champ and I was supposed to face Roger. I am undefeated in absolute and superfight. I am a little shocked that no one is giving Drysdale much of a chance in this matchup.Regardless of who wins though, it should be a fast paced, exciting match.

It may seem strange, but it actually makes all sense Ronaldo Jacaré to be chosen to face Robert Drysdale in the 2009 superfight.
And it has already happened before, exactly like this, in the 2005 superfight.
When Ricardo Arona couldn't face Dean Lister in the 2005 ADCC (by the way, they fought each other in a MMA bout weeks before, at Pride), the ADCC committee opted to invite Jean Jacques Machado to replace Arona.
Why?
Because Jean had lost to Arona in the 2001 absolute final, when the latter got his place to dispute the ADCC superfight.
So what? So that the competition generally obey this criteria. During the contest, if a winner of any phase get hurt or cannot compete in the next phase for any reason, the athlete who lost to him gets a place back.
It has happened several times, already. For example, when Eddie Bravo beat Royler and later lost to Leo Vieira in the semis, Royler came back to dispute the third place.
And surprised Soca, who was waiting to face Bravo and in the end had to fight for a third time in the ADCC with the Gracie (besides the 1999 and 2000 66kg finals).
All said to remind that, if Jacare lost to Roger in the 2005 absolute final when Roger conquered the superfight credential, now that Roger dropped out, who steps in? Jacaré.
